Drones over gatwick..

That looks like it's possibly either something that is prototyped, or has had the box bolted on to hide what's inside.

Either would make some sense depending on the situation as roofboxes are handy for providing a (semi) sealed enviroment for gear that has to be carried on the outside of a vehicle, it's also a good way to hide exactly what is in use if you don't want to give any clues away.
It also gives whatever it is some level of streamlining which is a good idea if you're putting stuff on the roof of a vehicle (it protects it in transit and helps reduce drag etc).

IIRC quite a few companies have used similar roof boxes to house electronics, as it's far cheaper than developing your own completely custom box and you can get hold of them easily :) (in the same way hobbyists used to use the old thick walled ice cream and butter tubs for electronics projects)

Change the law to allow it to be shot down perhaps?
Somewhat insane that currently they can't as the law prevents such responses.

Not the issue. Stray bullets in a built up area. In the states the police tried to shoot one down. Took over 1,000 rounds before somebody hit it. Thats a lot of stray bullets kicking around.

It's a bit late if the drone isn't there, the problem now is that it doesn't matter if a drone is there anymore.

Interested that you know the operational locations of the SAS, you must have some good connections.

Unlikely the SAS would be deployed for something like this to be fair unless there was an escalated threat we aren't aware of and I'm guessing he is inferring that the SAS wouldn't themselves bring those capabilities to the table it would be a specialist electronic warfare unit.

By all reports it is a system made by Rafael but the UK hasn't purchased the complete system just the core part so possibly they've jury rigged something to put it into use here.

What would your suggestion be, based on your apparently huge knowledge of what other countries would do?

SOMETHING, anything at all would be better than this. It's too late though, any weirdo with a burner phone can now close an airport.

Yes well after the fact, I offered up that other countries have reviewed and used solutions to combat it, we've clearly reviewed it as we have regulations in play, yet seemingly no tangible infrastructure.

/fully expect a copy paste question again.
