Dustmen/women...earliest legal start time

Well said.

I don't see the problem with that. I praise anyone getting to work early and getting on with the job. 9am is quite late in the day by modern standards now anyway.

People are losing a bit of perspective, it is one day a week when they collect your bins. IT's not the end of the world.

I agree.

When I'm on 'days' I start work at 0630. I dream of the days I can start work at that time everyday.

As i said whats your number il be sure to wake you up at 5am...hell make me a cuppa mate...theres a good girl

you ringing someone up at 5am just to wake them is not the same as someone inadvertently waking you while doing their job (removing your rubbish)

normally just after 7 here when they lift the bins though has been as early as 5 before - never bothered me, i'll roll over, mumble and go back to sleep - and before you say 'oohhhh but I'm a light sleeper you're obviously not'

a mouse farting half a mile away would wake me!

The OP gets up when he want except on W̶e̶d̶n̶e̶s̶d̶a̶y̶s̶ Thursdays when he gets rudely awakened by the dustmen.

He puts his trousers on, have a cup of tea and think about leaving the house.

Hi All

Putting this out there, if anyone knows the answer or where to look...

...after being woken up around 5am by the dustmen this morning...

Is there are legislation that states what the earliest time they can start work?

Think 5am and waking people up 2hrs before i need to is a bit much.

Seriously OP, First World Problems!

They are not ringing you at 5am to just **** you off though are they? and neither are they picking your **** up to **** you off at 5am, they are doing their job, there is a huge difference.

If it is illegal, ring the council, if you are peeved, ring the council.

You will have a worried and troublesome life if being woken at 5am once a week at min turns you into this :)

Point proven...you just wouldnt like it yourself!!

Youre basically saying suck it up...so whats your number fella...lets see how well you suck it up!!!!!

My point was...is it actually legal? Is there a guideline...and yes it is a pee take...5am...is a stupid time...1 job shouldnt dictate a neighbourhood and when they get woken up! Think about it logically more than behind your keyboard and nonsensically....

Tends to be earlier in summer iirc something to do with minimising the amount of time worked during the hottest part of the day.

Ours have come anywhere from 4.30am- 2pm they tend to rotate the routes round here so not everyone gets woken up early.

It's once a week I really don't see the issue. Heck a mouse farting will wake me up and you don't hear me whinging.

You mean, one man's sensitivity, lack of double glazing and refusal to wear earplugs should not dictate the livelihood and work of his binmen, nor the collection of his neighbours bins.

I live on a busy-ish road and with the windows shut i hear nothing. The binmen come round every Friday morning and i cant remember the last time i woke up after shutting the window.

You should move house next to the guy from the thread complaining about children playing outside during the day because he works nights.

lul

Seriously guys, good windows is well worth the money, you grumpy guys will appreciate it, winter is coming!

Quoted for truth! Best invested money so far not counting the house.

On topic: just buy some earplugs and put them in once a week, what's the problem? I doubt binmen trucks are considered excessive noise, especially if they have a load of streets to collect from.

I suggest one or more of the following:

- Better windows - thick air gap double/triple glazing
- Studio style sound insulate your bedroom (air gap false walls/ceiling/floor with acoustic materials etc)
- Ear plugs
- Sleeping pills
- Mental conditioning whereby you train yourself to fall asleep to the sound of bin lorries then when they do actually come early, you'll be fine.
- Move house
- Set your alarm to get up at that same time every day (go to sleep earlier if need be) so that when they do come you aren't 'inconvenienced'
- Take everyone's bins and move them to a different street in the middle of the night so when the lorries come early they won't stop because there are no bins
- Campaign to get everyone on your street to stop producing rubbish that requires bin lorries
- Contact your council to stop bin lorries coming down your street
- Stop whining.

That's quite a list...

A few to add if i may:
- Bribe the bin-men to not make so much noise
- Park your car at the start of the street to block access
- Shoot the bin-man that wakes you up, either you'll permanently frighten them off, or you can enjoy your new peace from your new home, i mean cell.

You mean so they can go to the pub in summer? It's just annoying. Heck, I used to do nightshifts so I'm well aware that a huge proportion of people don't do a 9-5. But the fact remains that builders/binmen etc. are working in and around people's houses and the fact remains they disturb people. Like I say, especially on a Saturday.

You're either trolling or have a very naive view on what work is like mate.

To be honest, I don't think binmen should be doing the rounds before 7am in residential areas.

It's easy to say "get over it OP", but I can imagine being a bit miffed at it if it were happening to me. Well, possibly - not sure I'd actually notice.
