Dying Light GPU and CPU test

Glad you are pleased. I hate not knowing if I am missing out and having previously owned a 4K Samsung, I kinda know I am missing out on pixels, which my eyes picked up instantly when gaming at 4K from 1440P. I stopped running overlay software a long time ago, as I felt it just resulted in me watching stats and not playing the game as it should be (fully immersed).

Meh, hopefully a 40" 4K G-Sync soon and I would even take 60Hz with my choice of games being Batman/Elite/Tomb Raider.

Yeah see 4k is kinda like broadband. Once you see it you never want to go back.. Same sorta thing with an SSD really.

Well I jumped on Broadband straight away at launch in the UK and paid the price for that (evenings it was totally crawling) and I jumped on SSDs in 2009 and paid for that (no TRIM and tiny capacity) and both times I had a glimpse and had to go back.

The reason I did not go 4k straight away at launch (I could have) is because they were 30hz screens and just not ready. So basically I would have had the same sort of thing going on that I did with broadband and SSDs. Some things just have to be waited for.

If you go 4k and you see it? god, going back to something lower res must be horrible.

I'd say the Acer is ready. Obviously in time 60hz won't cut it any more but for right now it's just wonderful.

if you think that is smooth, then you need to get your eye sight checked out...

mrk has uploaded a video showing some gameplay and it isn't smooth either (at least not to my eyes....), search "Dying Light PC UQHD [3440x1440] [Max FOV] [Max Settings]" on youtube

Maybe I am just not as picky as you or I have got used to it with UBI games....

Game problems vary from rig to rig. When BF4 launched and every one was complaining about it it was running beautifully for me. DICE released an update, people were happy, I bloody wasn't ! it totally broke the game and was a mandatory update too so I had no friggin choice. I then had to wait about two months before I could even play it again, never did complete it !!

When Dead Island launched it too was slated. I was running a GTX 295 single PCB, it ran beautifully.

It's just luck. I take reviews and such with a massive pinch of salt. Same goes for hardware. Every single cooler I've bought has been miles from what the reviewers state. What they don't tell you is that they're sitting on a test bench in a air cooled office.

Any way let's face it. There's no such thing as a reviewer. Not in the truest sense, they're just salesmen and women.

Right, 1.6 minute FRAPS benchmark.

Frames: 4613 - Time: 98032ms - Avg: 47.056 - Min: 33 - Max: 52

I have the game maxed out with FSAA enabled so I don't see that as being bad at all.

If I were in the low 20s I'd be worried.

Perhaps, like I said, I am extremely sensitive to stuttering and can't put up with it, trying to play FC 4 just give me a headache after 15 minutes. Micro stuttering is the worst.

Mate, if there's anything that boils my wee it's stutter or micro stutter.

I bought a set of Radeon 5770s and launch and the only game they ever sort of worked in was BFBC2. Everything else was completely awful. Every one was saying it was me, how it was fine for them, etc etc.

http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/sapphire_hd5770_crossfire_review/6

Read the conclusion and the score. I was sold.. Absolutely sold, didn't need any more convincing. What I got though? I would not wish on any one.

We know the reason now, but this is *exactly* what I was saying about reviews and reviewers. Obviously Bryan, the author, doesn't notice stutter.

Yup, always best to take reviews with a pinch of salt.

I will never go with more than 1 GPU, too many games don't work properly with it.

I need a consistent 50+ FPS, don't mind the odd drop below 50 every now and then but not every minute... I will try turning of the film grain in DL later on to see if performance is any better.

In the last five years or so I've only really had serious issues with UBI titles and GTAIV.

The latter? I tested it on my 7990 and it was still a stutter fest. I'm hoping GTAV is better but I seriously doubt it. R* are crap at making PC ports now :(

Uneven frametimes are the absolute worst I agree. I absolutely hate it when a game can't do a perfectly paced 30fps. Watch Dogs couldn't do 30fps on my 290 no matter what combination of v-sync and frame-limiting I use, same with GTA IV.

30fps is the reality of PC gaming for me nowadays when it takes the absolute top end card to even get close to a solid 60 (I'm talking new games of course). I might switch to a 970 just so I can get a G-Sync monitor and make 45 my new 60.

No they're not, Max Payne 3 worked great and the many members of the same team are working on GTA V, inc Kevin Hoare who was the Technical Director on the PC version.

Haha that post has made my week for best lolz, all the slating you gave 4k just a couple of months ago, and even last week, now look :p:p:p

GTX 970 SLI running Dying Light @ 4K with Maxed settings (except draw distance)

Looks very smooth for a 30 fps youtube vid :)

Missed that ! Yeah, that's pretty much what I am getting dude. Runs very well indeed with no stutter or slow down. Not sure if that guy is using G-Sync however, but watched it through and it runs very well.

TBH? I can't really say that I wouldn't play a 30 FPS game. I mean, I spent half of my life doing that before PC gaming really started. To me as long as it's smooth and the input is good I am happy. I remember playing Fallout : New Vegas on the Xbox 360 and that was awful. It couldn't even hold 30 FPS and constantly near on froze in busy action scenes.

I can certainly agree that UBI games are the worst and AMD backed FarCry 3....Still crap and nVidia backed Farcry 4...Still crap.

Yeah it's quite amazing how UBI can take Cry Engine 3 which was what Crysis 3 used and then make such a total mess out of it.

Thankfully I did not like Far Cry 2, 3 or 4. They all tried to be a bit like WOW and I absolutely abhor those types of games. I really CBA spending hours crafting, just give me some bloody action !

Now obviously I'm aware that Dead Island and Dying Light both have RPG elements to them but they feel far more like proper Fallout 3 RPG elements rather than WOW.

I've been waiting an absolute age now for a decent zombie romp.. It's pretty much what I do and why I have the gamer tag Zomb1k113r. Talking of which, my lady popped into town today and came home and presented me with this..

haha what a complete and total darling :D

Hmm. I just took at look at what actually went on and... Edit. Unlike the guy in the 970 4k video I have everything set to the absolute max because I initially went through the start sequence last night still running the 24" 1080p monitor.

That's pretty damn interesting. There were only three actual frames in the 30s and that's exactly the time I pressed F11 to start the benchmark. Once it was recording the frames stayed consistently in the high 40s.

So, I would confidently say that I'm not having any issues with the game at all.

Crytek were not involved in the making of Far Cry since the 1st game, They sold the IP to Ubisoft who use the 'Dunia' Engine which is an in-house engine.

Not the same things at all.

Hmm could have sworn FC3 came up with the Cryengine logo !

One word that makes me eat words - G-Sync.

I would never, ever have gone 4k without it. I can handle lower FPS I really can but I can not stand stutter.

So a massive thanks to OCUK for stocking this monitor at an amazing price.

Hell, I grew up on 8 bit computers and consoles, and playing manic miner/jet set willy was awesome in the day. Games are coming along way and what we expect is growing as well. The price we pay, we deserve to be treated fairly though and if a publisher releases a knowingly buggy mess, they should be held accountable.

I was reading a bit earlier about UBI and the top man (Guilemot?) said that UBI have done nothing wrong in 2015 and you can google that for proof.... The man is undeniably a smug arrogant "person" and that kind of statement just shows his arrogance and disadain for his customers.

I have to say its running ok considering Im rocking a paltry 780 @1440p! I have draw distance around 2/3's and aa off but with sweet fx and adaptive v sync on Im not having any problems. Its around 40-50 most of the time and 100% playable. The ubi games stress me out with the hitching and Im not seeing any of it

Doesn't matter to me. I just get that warm feeling every time I don't pay for his games :D

haha ! what puts the icing on the cake is how much UBI hate people that steal their games :D :D

Mind you if I'm honest the warm fuzzy feeling doesn't last for long. I don't think I've put more than an hour into any of their games. I got two copies of Watch Dogs with my TBs and played it.. Well, kinda tried to play it, for about five minutes.

That was enough, back to L4D, L4d2 Dead Island and now, yippee ! Dying Light.

Actually do you know what? you're right. Max Payne 3 was absolutely fantastic. So there is hope after all :)

God, I'll never forget that bit where you infiltrate the hotel only to find they were chopping up bodies. Really sent a chill down my spine (in a good way :) )
