Ear wax anyone

I have to visit ent every 6 months and am currently on my 3rd set of grommets (I'm 38, first two sets were back when I was younger). They were put in in 2012 and the left one is still there!!! I kept getting ear infections too and it damaged my hearing a bit.

This thread is scary seeing what some of you people do lol. Stop putting ANYTHING in your ears uless told too by a Doc, take it from someone who learnt the hard way :(

I used to push the cotton buds deep into the ear! Sometimes touching the eardrum which hurt. Done this tons of times of the years. This is how i have tinnitus etc.

Going to try not to put cotton buds in my ears again!

As an opposite opinion, I've been using dampened Johnson & Johnsons cotton buds almost daily for over 25 years and my ears have no problems with wax, however I am always extremely careful.

I also have a 8mm USB flexible endoscope for searching dropped car bits, lost tool bits etc (amazingly useful if you're a ham-fisted buffoon and not a car mechanic) and I use it to check my ears once a month on average just to have a look and on my last check-up, whilst the doc told me off for using the buds (they have to really) he agreed that my ears were nice and clean!

Funny this thread should pop up, ive recently been learning to swim (yes at the age of 40!), this weekend was the 1st time i actually swam properly, head in the water and stuff :p but unfortunately i got some water in my ear, which has lead to a blocked ear, that I couldnt shift.

Ive been using otex express drops, ive always had earbud OCD, i just enjoyed cleaning my ears, but in reality, ive just been pushing wax further in, the ear drops have finally started to do their thing, and muck is shifting, and its blooming horrible! The popping sensation from the Otex is strangely cool :p

WTF was that??? I have to have my left ear hoovered out every year or so after a operation I had back in the 90's. Horrible it is because it makes me feel really dizzy and sick. Passed out once too!!

I've had my ears hoovered out and I also hate it. A) the guy kept getting it stuck on my ear (like if you put your hand over a hoover hose) which hurt like hell and b) it was incredibly loud when the wax cleared. Like a jet engine inside my ear.

Still, it's pretty cool having ninja hearing for a day (unless you have to drive home, then it's a bit overwhelming).

Should never be like that. The guy must have been inexperienced

I have eustacian tube dysfunction in my right ear, can't hear much at all out of it.
Get loads of wax in my left ear sometimes and nuke it with Otex - got no hearing otherwise.

I've only had blocked ear once and the satisfaction I got from the mass of ear wax coming out after using Otex was up there with the satisfaction of taking a poop you've been holding all day and sex :D

Yeah probably. This was with some rock hard wax though (a month of olive oil and an attempt at syringe failed) so maybe he had to use a bit more gusto to get it out! Either way it did the job. It was both ears as well so I desperately needed it

Am I the only one who when having a bath dropped my head back into the water till only my nose was showing listening to my ears popping and gluging as the water went down them. Then sitting up and tipping head side to side - I really do miss that - only got a shower now.

I now sympathise with anyone with ear wax after looking at youtube vids again.

No no, me too. Also prodded my ear drums.

No wonder I have tinnitus at the ripe age of 31.9 :p:rolleyes:

I have tinnitus although pretty sure mine was from Amnesia in Ibiza. I came out of there after one night and everything sounded distorted almost like I was underwater!

Ear buds are notoriously bad for your ear and I've had to have my ear flushed once as it got so bad I couldn't hear on my left side but my god I absolutely adore the feeling of cleaning out my ears, especially with a warm wet bud, then again I'm a freak who'll happily sit watching pimple popping videos all day.

DIY ear flusher here, empty shower gel bottle with a quarter of a bic pen shoved into hole in top, fill with warm water, tilt head sideways over sink give a ruddy good squeeze, water goes in, wax and water come out, may have to repeat a few times depending on severity of blockage, I have been doing this for years, always works wonders.

(I take no responsibility for burst eardrums, deafness, tinnitus, or any other ear related mishap, use at your own risk)

Everytime I shower I turn my head and spray hot water into my inner ear a few times during it, then when I get out dry my outter ears with toilet paper and use a cotton bud to clean the outter part of the canal, going nowhere near the drum.
My ears are spotless and I have great hearing, done this for 20+ years.

I looked it up on the internet and then saw it was done locally. Rang them and appointment made! The guy said better than the water syringing method as that can damage the eardrum etc.

Yes, i have tinnitus in both ears but this method is non invasive. He doesnt stick a Dyson in the ear and put on full power! Lol He was very careful and professional. The clinic is in my local University and he lectures students too.

I swear by this microsuction procedure. I have a problem with my left ear canal and I seem to go from ear infection to ear infection which leaves me having to have antibiotics at the ready all the time. It also means that I have a lot of junk left in my ear after an infection.

When I was in the UK i used to go to :

http://clearearclinic.com/intro

and if I remember correctly it was 120 quid a go.

I have a doctor in India now that specializes in the same procedure. Just as good with the price of a fiver!
