Easyriders Cinema Room

Easy I think that is where most blokes want to go when they die.

I think my old man would seriously kill the have a few hours with those guitars, nice selection of some of the best ever made m8, again good taste shown.......but you already know that :D

Cheers mate.

:D

This thread is win.

I went looking at a plot of land last night, which is due for a total rebuild and i'm thinking of stealing a lot of ideas :D

I especially like the guitar rack idea.. All mine are in hard cases.

Kudos on a great project. *tips hat*

I tend to play them more when I can get to them easily.

Mind you the Case/Rack was not cheap.

@ easyrider,

i have worked in sound engineering for 20 years, until recently when i gave it up to career change into IT, from musical theatre to rock n roll, mostly touring.

my specialised area was sound design and frequency analysis, now i know from previous posts that you have had the room 'sounded out' and you have very common issues with reverb and acoustic' noise'

the baffles you have instaled are great, but i notice from the pics one area that will, and probaly is causing a problem due to the 'throw' of the tannoys.

this area is that back wall, have you thought about some drapes behind the sofa? all along that wall would be great, it would just eliminate any 'back slap' that might be confusing the sounding out of the room.

if you need a more comprehensive analysis of the room give me the total dimensions in a PM,

im sure i remeber how to apply the formula, for any other engineers out there, its 0.16 x (V) volume divided by (A) absorption coefficients, yeah? measured in (OW) open window units?

should be fun to do, funny enough i ejected all this info from my brain, for my IT degree, there is only sooo much room in your head after all lol

again a very very nice set up you have there, but you know that ehh? :D

The back curtain is a good idea.

Oh no more tweaking!:p

Love your Fender Strat easyrider... I play guitar also, I have done for about 14 years on and off.. I am a Les Paul man myself though... but I do like strats for playing certain types of music, but my Les Paul is a great all round guitar...

I also have a 7 string Japanese Ibanez RG7420 from early 2000, it is another cracking guitar, and I run my guitars through my Marshall JCM2000TSL 100w valve head and Laney 4x12 cabinet, and I also use a Line6 POD X3 Live floor pedal, the tones that this setup delivers are second to none IMO...

cheers mate,

The home studio bit fo the room is coming along nicely....I have decided to get my drumkit out of storage...

just ordered the same projector that you went for Easy, how are you finding it? How far back is the projector to get your 92" view?

Its a great piece of kit.

Just been watching Wimbledon on Sky HD and I hate tennis:p

I would say about 3 metres back but I used the calculator on the optoma site m8.

Nice one, ill go check it out, should be arriving today, and my wall is getting screeded next week to remove the artex, ill then paint it the correct colour to save money on a projector to kick off.

Out of interest, do you use a switcher to switch from HD on your TV to HD on your Projector, or does your amp do all this?

Amp does it all.

It has 2 HDMI outputs.

I just switch between HDMI Main (for Screen) and HDMI Sub for the TV:)

What HDMI cable did you bury in the wall? Looks meaty :D

It appears you also used some plastic square trunking to hide it in the wall behind the TV?

Sorry.. soaking ideas for my build and I was originally going for HD over CAT6 but that HDMI cable looks the nuts.

Its a guaranteed 15m cable....although I never tested it before I buried it.:eek::D

I made a channel in the wall for the HDMI cable but changed my mind and decided not to wall mount the TV

Set up my projector on my wall prior to it being done, so it still had artex on it, did seem slightly out of focus and i couldnt figure out how to focus it for about 5 mins, when i twisted that dial the picture cleared, and it looked superb.

Im really excited about getting the rest of it done, i had just planned to use my logitech speakers to start with, but im thinking now for getting speakers and an amp.

Is there an optimal distance for the projector? Im guessing the smaller the screen, the better the quality is going to be, i really could go anything from about 4-8 metres back from the wall.

I wanted max detail and for me, 92" is more than big enough for the size of the room imo.

Looks amazing, great work!!!

How much wiring and stuff have you done in the past? Was it all reasonably easy to do?

Like any DIY job I just took my time.

Thankfully my mate is an electrician so that helped greatly.

I just had a vision and made it happen. I did a lot of research and stuff and stuck to a budget.

I haggled on pricing and was lucky with the timing of my purchases.

I must say the Onkyo 876 is one of the best bits of Kit I have ever bought. Its the heart of the system and does the job fantastically!

Anyone with the space and the funds to have a home cinema should embrace the opportunity with vigour.

I love this space and spend hours in there noodling on the guitars watching movies and chilling out.

Got mine setup today, just the socket for the projector to go in tomorrow and im all set.

I currently dont have a screen, just projecting onto a matt white wall, the overall effect is good but its a bit too bright, could someone recommend a budget but decent 92" scroll down screen?

I also got spot lights fitted instead of the large centre light in my living room, im projecting the image (approx 92") above my 50" plasma, its a tad higher up than id like, but the option is not having my tv in front of the couch, and thats not very comfortable for tv viewing then, i may end up switching my 50" living room tv with my 42" bedroom plasma to make it a little less in your face, sitting about 12 feet back from the screens.

I used my existing Logitech Z5500's at the moment, i had my rear speakers wired in today as well (bought some new cable for that) so when i change setup, ill still be able to use the cables for these and just buy some new better cable for whatever i get put in.

Including the electrical work, projector and remote, ive spent less than £600 as i already had the speakers, so its a budget system, but overall, its very pleased with the result, and it will do for a while. Its amazing what you can with not a lot of cash if you have a decent sized room to put stuff into! Ill bring the camera home from work tomorrow and take some pics when its complete (or near complete, plasterer is coming to tidy up around the projector and lights, so ive got a big gaping hole just now where my old main light came down).

Worth all the effort then?:D
