Easyrider's Playon HD mini review thread.

Eventually arrived today. Longest next day delivery ever.

Had issues with it at the start, just kept on crashing after ten secs but a refresh install of firmware solved that.

Now just need to wait for my Blu-Ray/HD-DVD drive to arrive so I can start ripping my HD-DVD collection.
 
Does anyone know if any other xbmc type programs will work with the Playon mini hd??...im not really keen on the yamj program as it doesnt always come up with the right boxart and theres no synopis of the file ie if its a movie.

So anything else out there that i can try with this media streamer??.
 
Just thought I'd ask as the version on one website didnt mention the + at the end.
One ordered with HDMI splitter will be here tomorrow :)

just need the external drive and was looking at the WESTERN DIGITAL Elements External Hard Drive - 2TB. any used this?

when i put files on the drive is there a specific folder structure, file name format I need to use for the playon or yamj to recognise the files.

when ripping dvds to the drive, whats the best format to save them in?

I ordered the same ext hd myself yesterday, should have it today as the one im using now is getting rather small for my extensive Blu ray RIPS.

On my HD i havent got any specific folder structure...i just have it like C:Blu Ray/Movies...in there i have all my Blu rays rips in separate folders and thats it....when i turn my Playon on, all i do is browse to where my ext hd is...go into the file where my movies are stored and voila they are all there.

Although at the moment i use yamj to play my movies....it works pretty good although im looking at trying to use something else as yamj doesnt seem to work very well...missing box covers when they should turn up....i might need to re-structure the whole yamj thing.

As for ripping DVDs to the drive...i just use AVI filetypes...the playon will play just about any file type thrown at it. For my Blu Ray rips i use MKV file types...takes a long time but i prefer mkv's for my Blu ray rips.
 
Stupid me didn't think about plugging my xbox hd-dvd drive into my PC. Just done so to find it works. Would have saved me a lot of hassling having to track down a dual hd-dve/blu ray drive at a decent price. Oh well at least I can start on my hd-dvd collection without having to wait for the drive to come. Will hopefully check how the AC handles HD later tonight :)
