Easyrider's Playon HD mini review thread.

Does it have any major issues/bugs?

No not really...the only issue i have at times and i reiterate only at times which are very few and in between is that sometimes my ext HD wont play ball with the playon ie the hd will be on but it wont scan any files or update with the YAMJ app but i think its my HD rather than the playon itself.

Im looking at replacing the ext hd with a standalone NAS box sometime in the new year...well once ive paid some bills off etc etc then ill get one and that way i can have it running through the network. As at the moment, anything i want the playon to play...i have disconnect my hd from it, connect it to my laptop...copy whatever it is then re-connect it back to my playon box which can be a pain in the bum so want to get rid of that setup at the moment.

Thinking of getting one of these myself as an alternative to the HTPC.
Has anyone managed to successfully play (without stuttering) a bluray ISO over a network connection with HD Audio with one of these?

Bumping this thread back up a bit, but it looks like there is a newer model coming out, another website states March 2011, may invest in the next one given the reviews.

I spotted this whilst browing the support forums yesterday.

I wonder what this means for existing development on the original hd mini?

I may have to buy the new one and relegate the old one to the bedroom depending on how things shape up!

Does sound promising. Im sticking with my Boxee Box for now. It is improving with every firmware update.

Whilst the new playon UI looks better then it did I still dont really like it. Shame no one cant just stick the mediaportal/plex UI on one of these boxes I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Grrrrr now they add gigabit connectivity to it lol...my bro is really interested in the one i have so i might give him that and get the new playon mini especially the gigabit wired connectivity as my network is slowly becoming gigabit...bought a Synology NAS box a few weeks back and thats connected to my gigabit switch...although i streamed some Blu Ray rips i had from the NAS to the playon and it streamed perfectly well...in fact it was superb...no stutters or slowdown...seeing as the playon i have now is not gigabit but the NAS box is gigabit.

Well I can stream fine on the current box using NFS shares. Standard Windows sharing is crap though. So far I don't need the gigabit networking for it even though the rest of my network is.

Oh dont get me wrong...i doubt ill go for the updated one unless my brother takes mine...at the moment the one i have streams perfectly fine from my NAS box which is connected to my gigabit switch...even my playon mini is connected to the gigabit switch but isnt gigabit. But it stream my Blu Ray rips perfectly fine...havent seen any stuttering or stops etc, plays smooth as silk..was just mulling over replacing the playon i have now with a gigabit enabled one as it just makes it a lot more simpler ie if i start having streaming issues but as i said i wont till my brother takes the one i have now, which hes not sure about now.

Ultimately in the end i want to change everything in my network to gigabit ie will be buying a new laptop with gigabit ethernet and also am considering changing my playon mini with the gigabit enabled one.
