Easyrider's Playon HD mini review thread.

Just an update, appears my problem isnt so isolated to me.

Basically if your player came with firmware r4624 then it is impossible to use SDK2.0 firmware as it will just crash!

Heres hoping they have added some professionalism for there new firmware/gui and dont leave bugs all over the place.

Had a read through the thread and I think one of these would be ideal for the kid watching his cartoons etc.. as his dvds end up getting wrecked. I'll maybe pick up the MiniHD2 as it should be available anytime soon by the looks of it.

I understand you can get a wireless dongle for the mini but were I to wire it to my router would the correct cable I need be the following: CAT5e RJ45 Ethernet Network LAN Cable

Not very familiar with cables and so on so I'm sure some of you folks will know.

I notice there appears to be Wifi functionality in the menu, I assume you need an add-on for this? Does it work with standard USB Wifi adapters, is there a supported list?

One of these would do nicely for the bedroom, but I never got around to running CAT5 up there.

Yep just a standard cat5 cable will do...i have mine connected to my gigabit switch which is then in turn connected to my router..works perfectly fine over my network.

AFAIK you can only use the AC Ryan wireless dongle...i dont think any others are compatible...best to check on the ac ryan website or you could call them...they are pretty helpful.

"The only chipset supported are Realtek 8191SU and 8192SU."

Hi guys,

Can see much online about this as im at work and everythings blocked! :|

Anyway can this unit see a xbmc library, by that I mean pick up the correct movie info/art based on the folder name?

Thanks Kevin.

Looks just what i need :)

What is the transfer speed over the wired lan line? The one i have the moment is so slow i stopped using it and got a usb key :(

Also is it possible to have something like par n rar put stuff directly on the internal drive?

Same question as above but with an external drive attached to the device via usb

Thanks

easyrider how does it handle streaming mkv's from a pc? A problem I've had in the past is streaming blurays wirelessly as it can't keep up with the bitrate

Streaming Blu ray rips over a wireless network will always give you issues ie stuttered playback etc....i have my playon mini connected to my NAS via a gigabit switch which then runs to my TV....streams all mkvs and blu rays rips perfectly well.

I ordered the Mini 2 this afternoon, I don't normally like jumping in on early versions of these kind of things, but it's to replace an old Xbox with XBMC, so it doesn't actually need to do much!

I bought one of the confirmed working USB Wireless Dongles off the 'bay last week, it was only £6 or so, so I'm hoping the Mini 2 will use the same dongle (RTL8192 chipset I believe)..
