Elden Ring

This game is so good, just exploring Limgrave and found some really cool stuff and some caves, found a nice Greatsword in a chest :D

So far it seems bosses are optional? I have downed one in the Catacombs, but afterwards I felt like I didnt really need to do it like say in Demon Souls where you had to beat one to progress, i'm assuming there will be bosses that you have to beat in order to progress?
There will be yes. There are a ton of bosses in catacombs etc but the main ones will block your progress but even then there will be other places to go. It’s not as locked in as other From games.

Finished the game this afternoon. It was fantastic fun, and challenging without being unfair, right up until the last section which was utterly frustrating due to supreme difficulty on a couple of the boss fights ( with further hindrance from the camera ). Such a shame, really - I would say the game is a 9/10 in terms of atmosphere, the exploration and combat until that last segment. Definitely drops points for the poor balancing at the end and one or two technical issues. With some patching / balancing it could become a masterpiece. Until From Software do that, though, I can't see myself replaying the game.

Made some real progress with the Ranni quest line today.

Took out a fair few bosses this weekend too. By far the most challenging was Rennala. Omfg so much rage when she would get me just as she was on her last 10hp and my wolves would finish her off. Just couldn’t seem to find a way through. Had to put it down on Saturday as I was too wound up! lol.

Came back today and downed her on 3rd try inside of 30 seconds. What did I do differently!?

I went in hard attack. Instead of backing away from her star magic - I ran into it and rolled “under” it. Used light attacks and this was enough to break her poise it seems. She didn’t get chance to summon her ashes. Winner winner chicken dinner!!

Took down Radahn today too. And Mimic Tear. And Mad Pumpkin head dude. Also downed Dragon Kin Soldier.

After killing Radahn I went to the catacombs at the edge of his battle area.

Noped the hell out of there quick sharp!!! Lol :p

Ohhh I never noticed anything there.

Yeah, if you run all the way up to where the coastline intersects the tall cliffs on the left there's a door leading down into a catacombs. There's also a viewpoint for one of the picture puzzles on the broken aqueduct.

I did a quick sprint and thought nah nothing here. I should've questioned why there would be a grace of nothing was around.

There’s a boss, so that would suggest some nice goodies. I never managed to find the switch to open the boss door on my mad dashes through the area!

Going to come back when I can hit the enemies a bit harder and can unlock the boss door.

After struggling for ages, did some farming and beat Radhan on the first go :) Now where to :D

You might want to have a look where that meteor landed :) I couldn’t work it out so I looked it up lol
After he dies, the shooting star? I thought it went to the massive Erdtree.. I do have his sword now, just need the Strength to wield it :D

The giant silver ball-baring death, from behind is unfair but i laughed out loud it was so ridiculous.
True, but it's a one off thing ( actually twice ... there's a building with a treasure chest in it down in the undercity where the doors lock behind you and entrap you in the room with yet another giant silver ball-bearing.) But once you know about these things you won't, or shouldn't, be caught by surprise again.

Well I bought this on PS5 and loving it so far! Only played 6 hours or so but feel like I've done a fair amount. My first 30 minutes was an eye opener...

Many of the story bosses can be skipped too.,

Well worth killing most of them though even the catacombs ones for the weapons, ashes etc some of them have.

Ranni's questline is a beast! Astel is a tough cookie! I have a strategy with beast breath and ranged attacks, but getting near to apply Rot is a PITA :D

I managed to kill Astel last night in a couple of attempts. I thought it would take more because the first two I could barely get near it and it moves about so much.. In the end the rock sling spell was the way to go with level 105 Mage. A melee build must be troublesome to say the least!

Finished Ranni’s quest line the other day. Boss took me 3 or 4 goes wasn’t too bad he’s pretty weak to magic and melee. Just used my spirits to hold his aggro and smooshed him with my biggest spells. As above rock sling does a heap of damage to him.
