Probably just a melee build to start.

Planned to play all day today but something came up :(
 
I only started a couple weeks ago, really enjoying it as a samurai. I tend to fire my arrow one or two shots then get my sword out and hope for the best haha.

Give Glinstone Pebble a try, MP for that isn't that high and it's a very good spell, even as a basic one. If you level it up a bit, you can kill a lot of enemies by spamming the triggers.

Didn't think of magic using as I've spent all my points so far in dexterity and the one that builds up my hit points. Where do I get spells from, I'm not very far in game. I killed the main boss in the castle and now I've ran off to some red decaying area with these big weird crows.

There is a guy in a basement, not far from the starting area, right next to where that troll is pulling a cart. You can buy spells from him.
 
Wow this is one crazy game. Just started today , no idea where I am or where I’m going. Been to a round table where I got annihilated by a black phantom, no idea how I got there or how to get back there. Now I’ve teleported to some area miles away from the start and no idea what to do.

Do you mean ashes applied to weapons or summons?

If you mean summons then:

You need the spirit calling bell, which you receive from Renna a church of Elleh. It can also be purchased from twin maiden husks at roundtable hold. Also, you need enough FP or HP to ‘pay’ for the summon.

Some summons use FP, others use HP.

Also you can only summon when you see the grey grave stone symbol on the bottom left portion of your screen - there are set places you can use summons, they are not available any time you like.

If you mean weapon skills ashes of war, you need to apply them to weapons / equipment whilst resting at site of grace by selecting the ashes of war option from the resting menu.

Also, features might be unavailable if you have weapon in off hand - you will need to two hand your weapon for ashes applied to a weapon to become active.

If you are finding the ps5 prioritise frames option choppy the only other option is to download the ps4 version. Which runs at a locked 60fps on ps5 but has lower details than the ps5 version.

Me too with my samurai build killed him in like 3 minutes.

Currently level 76 now, really enjoying it. Just killed the first elden boss and now faces morgott. Hopefully won't be too bad but if he's too much trouble I'll go elsewhere till I'm a bit stronger.
