Elden Ring

That's only efficient once you have the end game sword.

I am not on NG+ yet, not even close.

I’m not on NG+ either but I haven’t found a better yield of runes for time vs effort yet. Can use gold pickled fowl foot as well as armour and talismans to maximise yield too but I’d recommend just sticking to the bird until you have levelled enough to take on the mob.

Still takes time but it’s a souls game so the grind is part of life! :p

Taking on the mob as a mage just isn't very efficient lol I find the bird much quicker with time vs Runes return.

Could you not use comet Azur and some other well documented trickery to get like 15 seconds of killer death ray right through the middle of them and then leg it back to grace?

Erm, I guess? but it's also too narrow i feel. I don't have that yet so can't check in any case. I don't want to get back into it yet until I have a few real life stuff completed before it takes up all my free time.

Mikka, she’s great at Elden ring done the whole game off a dance pad first time around and now two at once !

Now doing 1 hand God of War. Right hand inside a Pringle tube lol. (Although this is perfectly possible because the game was designed to be played 1 handed, I heard on a podcast - Alana Pearce, who works for Santa Monica, said that one of the dev lead is disabled with only 1 hand, so part of the accessibility of the game is designed with that in mind.

When I read she did it with her feet I thought it meant she used her feet to use the controller and bossed the boss! Kinda disappointed it wasn’t that, but even so, to use a dance pad is also really awesome.

And as if that wasn’t awesome enough, two games at once is just……….wow.

Some people are just special.

So Elden ring has dropped in price for Xbox, so I thought what the hell. I'll pick it up to compare it directly on the Series X against the PS5, as there have been so little analysis of where things stand in terms of performance since 9 months of time passing. Literally, if you search all you'll find are console fan boys, or YT vids of people reading out the patch notes.

I don't care for running the PS4 version on PS5.

Nothing technical below, just mere observations after an hour of flicking between the two consoles on a LG C2 TV, Elden Ring 1.08.1:

PS5 - Quite often stutters - stuttering is visible whether VRR is on or off. At first I thought this was due to the poor implementation of VRR on PS5, but the stuttering seem to also be occurring during times when the FPS is well above the 48FPS threshold for VRR on PS5.

Series X - Worse performance than PS5 with VRR off, framerate often drops under 60FPS. With VRR on though, it's extremely smooth.. to the point where I can't really fault it. Moving through the same areas that I did on PS5, I can't see any stutter or judder. VRR is literally doing Gods work.

Loading times were what initially made me choose the PS5 version over Series X, but they are now so identical there's no realistic difference. Measured 7 seconds to load after death on both Series X and PS5.

So the DF video still holds true that Series X with a VRR display is the best way to go. The PS5 is hardly unplayable or anything, of course. But if you have a Series X and a VRR display.
