Elden Ring

Yup, perf mode exclusively for me. I tried quality once and lasted five seconds before switching. Riding around certain places is really jarring, you can feel the drops and stuttering so much as everything around you loads in. Small drops in dungeons are nothing serious and vrr smooths them out pretty well, the problems happen during traversal mostly.

Judging by the amount of threads on the issue I'm not the only one.

I sure as hell hope they're working on that RT patch and will iron out the performance then because otherwise things will get dire, sub-30fps with RT easily.

It's disappointing that I have to settle with PS4 visuals on a new console but I don't think I'll be able deal with the performance in certain places, especially that PC, supposedly marred with problems, handles it just fine and I get both improved vegetation and hardly any stutters. Even when drops happen, the game doesn't chug like on PS5. Same with PS4 version, when the game drops a frame here and there (rarely) it doesn't introduce any stuttering.

If you have access to the PS4 version you can try Laskyar Ruins for example and compare the two, or just riding straight through Lliurnia or Gatefront towards Agheel Lake.

EDIT: TBH, I'd take a locked 40fps 120hz mode with proper framepacing over this but the game can't even run in a 120hz container so...

I may have unknowingly played the PS4 version then (if this is possible with the PS5 disc), as I never really noticed any of these issues other then the occasional slowdown :D

Recently re-started on the Steam Deck and was a bit apprehensive at first due to having it locked at 30 fps, but so far I've been really surprised and loving it again. Already found a dungeon I never did on my 1st playthrough last year as well in the 1st area, so guessing I will find loads more that I missed.

You get both versions only when you buy PS4 disc or go digital so not likely:p People have varying tolerance for this, it's very jarring for me in worst cases and I've heard one of the patches has made it worse.

PS4 BC is still the best performing version, as above.

I'm also finding new things and places, never even knew the Wraith Calling Bell was a thing and I've spent a lot of time on the PC version.

Very few games can nail this feeling after 100h of gameplay when I restart from scratch and it's like I'm playing a completely new character with different abilities and also stumble upon places, tools and chars I've never seen before.

Hahaha just had to look that wraith calling bell up, guess what I’ll be getting on this play through now :D

Picked this up last night chose samurai as my character base unsure if a good choice or not just chose it to have a quick go last night, should I stick with it? Or is there a better one for beginners? (Played a few souls games but stopped playing them after a while) any general tips?

I believe vagabond is the easiest starting character but just play the game I guess and see how it pans out :)

Not sure it matters that much as you can pretty much change your play style the more you get into it. You can even reset your stats later on in the game.

Doesn't matter outside the fiest few hours, Samurai starts with one of the best and most flexible weapons in the game anyways. Picked the class for the current playthrough myself.

As for general tips, explore, learn to read the map as the game is way more topographically involving than your typical RPG, read item descriptions and exhaust npc dialogue/revisit them often. For combat, treat standard enemies as training dummies for learning patterns and timings or experimenting with your loadout.

I found a summon I had not found before today. I remembered I had not been down to the bottom of the huge lift in Raya Lucaria in my current playthrough, on the way down I noticed on the lift a piece of land I could jump across to and there were a couple of enemies and a summon.

Oh man, this game. It is both a bewilderment and an astoundment of free-form of gaming. This is definitely a game that has got me sold on the souldsborne way of questing albeit with heightened pangs of "what am I missing?". I glanced at the wiki and I'm massively out of step with the sequencing but hell I'm enjoying it. I've already visited the capital but time to get rotten!

I'm tempted to replay this all over again, amazing memories on my playthrough, one of if not the greatest games I have ever played - Only thing is I don't want to 'tarnish' them memories as not everything will be a surprise :p

You sound like me, I took the chance with it as well, and guess what its the same, difficultly puts me right off it's just not fun for me at all.

In my experience it was way easier than dark souls etc. I quit them games within a short period but due to the large open nature of elden ring you can just run out and retry different techniques or explore somewhere else for a bit.

The games are tough but you always know what you've done wrong.. Spamming roll without and stamina, swinging one too many times etc. Once you learn techniques it clicks.

Just don't button bash cos it punishes that.

TBH, I've spent like 100h on PC and now playing both the PS4 and PS5 versions with different chars/progression and having almost as much fun as on my first playthrough.

Still finding new locations, bits of lore and tools. Not to mention mind-blowing build options.
Absolutely ridiculous game.

As above regarding difficulty, Soulsborne games are among the fairest games I've ever played, ER is not exactly fair in the same way as there's quite a lot of BS when it comes to bosses and certain enemies but that's offset by the absolute BS tools you get. Just don't do pure melee no ash runs and it should be a breeze mostly.

Finally finished my 5th playthrough, bit of a weird ending though - I beat malenia easily with mohgs spear and black Knight tiche. I then could not beat radagon/elden beast with my build, I ended up changing to an int based build with the clayman harpoon and the ice spear ash of war and the mimic summon. Beat them 1st try with this the ash of war destroys elden beast. I got the frenzied flame ending done.

I have now started Monster Hunter Rise on Gamepass on my series x with a duel blades build - seems nice so far.

I've not even completed it once! (: I have managed to get the Castle Sol but getting annihilated by Niall. I think I need to revisit a few areas and level up (currently 103). I've yet to kill Rykard, so perhaps a revisit to the Manor to complete a few more recusant jobs.

Do the recusant stuff before Rykard, you get one of the best looking armor sets in the game from one and you'll get locked out if you kill Rykard.

Niall is a right ********:D
