Endless Space - 4x4 Strategy Space Game ( INDIE )

Xpand, Xplore, Xploit, Xterminate, turn based. No twitch skills or reflexes required.

Masters of Orion 2, Galactic Civilization 2, etc.

Although not quite the same how does it compare to Sins if anyone has played both?

Sins is a blend of RTS and 4x while endless space goes for the classic turn based 4x gameplay.

I've only had a few games of endless space so far but i would't really say they are that comparable apart from Sins having some aspects of 4x. Endless space sticks to the traditional 4x model with it being turn based and lets you attempt to think of an overall strategy(although i really suck atm :D ). I've not really played enough to gauge the performance of the AI yet, all i know is they keep beating me back :p. The combat in Endless Space is a bit odd sort of cinematic card based combat you basically choose 3 cards for long range medium range and close range and hope you pick one that counters the ai's choice  im pretty rubbish at the combat so far but it does look very pretty!.

In sins you have direct control of the combat and the abilities of your ships although you can let the AI do it. I've not played Rebellion yet but have played the others and one of my main gripes from sins was the AI was pretty poor overall from there combat to diplomacy it was generally too easy just turtle up then slowly push them back. The diplomacy also doesn't really have much depth to it but since everything happens in real time it would be very difficult to implement i think.

So far i'm finding Endless Space a bit difficult to get to grips with, It took me ages to use those wavey line space lanes as I couldn't find the right research. Also not overly keen on the way planet improvements are done, ascendency was the best way!

MOO 2 still has the best way :D

Ridiculous. Endless Space does not deserve 9.3 as it is. It's capable of it, but it needs a bit more work.

Sins is real-time, Endless Space is not. That's by far the biggest difference. ES is more like a classic TBS with a very modern interface; actually, to be fair, ES's interface is the best I've seen in a strategy game.

It should be noted that although ES is technically a TBS, there are time constraints in certain aspects of the game, which I find really ****ing annoying.

Pirates SUCK as they do in Sins of a solar empire, what's even more annoying as I had 4 ships per fleet on every one of my colonies with no way to defend myself. Yet the other races didn't have any

Hey Neil,

I'm looking at the ship design, the auto assign function is pretty pants to say the least, what are you putting on your ships at the moment?

Stelly

Combat is card based??? What the heck is that :)

I played Sword of the Stars for a time and thought the combat was really good and involved.

How the hell do I move my ships to another system? And why does the AI keep sending ships to my doorstep? They don't attack, communicate or anything, they just sit there. Wtf?

Didn't realise there was an auto assign function I thought it was an auto update function so that as you research tech it automatically updates the design? I only just realised before that on the support modules you can scroll down to choose engines and some other useful stuff...really derpy that i never noticed that before no wonder some of my ships were getting so easily outclassed.

About to click buy. Really worth it?

I would say if you enjoy 4x games then definitely the combat i still havn't got to grips with but the empire management is fantastic.
