Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

some countries store their excess by pumping water into a dam then unleashing it to create hydro power.
it's probably cheaper than batteries and less dangerous.

BTW it's not always windy up north and often it's probably too windy anyway

They do it here, lookup power mountain in llanberis, one example, big lake on the top of a mountain, they pump the water up effectively acting as a massive battery, then obviously they can draw the power back out when needed.

Edit: Electric Mountain sorry, not power mountain.

And they would be right, it looks awful. Why blight the landscape when you can stick it all offshore (as we seem to be doing).

Loads of things are a blight on the landscape. Motorways, tower blocks and heavy industry. Doesn't stop these being built though does it? Personally I think wind turbines look majestic and modern.

This is fantastically inefficient as you are pumping a lot of water, usually quite a long way up hill but yes, its one way. Watched an interesting video on it a few months ago.

I know, it was very much tongue in cheek.

The quote for getting Solar power and battery installed. The cheapest quote which would cover about 1/5th of English was £9.5k what's the point.
I was quoted 4800 the other day. It adds 1800 to your house value and might reduce your bill by 1500 a year. There is a point of solar power.

Nimbyism, just what's needed now...

Yea **** those guys.

Seriously would they rather a nuclear power station a mile down the road.

IF you somehow live, without using any electricity, then fine, you have the right to protest, otherwise **** off.

I live in the fens and we are surrounded by wind turbines, look out of the window you can see several within a mile or two, they don't bother me in the slightest, you gotta generate it somehow, rather a renewable source.

Please provide details of this amazing system which covers its cost in such a short space of time.

Yeah, that seems cheap and unrealistically profitable. Prior to current price increases most people barely spent that amount total in a year and I know that you aren't getting a massive array installed for £4800 and the pay in tariffs aren't exactly lucrative these days.

That is great. My cheapest quote was over double, reduced my bills by 1/5th and added nothing to property value so to habe a return that would take over 20 years isn't viable.

Hi Michael,

A 12 panel system would be in the region of £4500-£5000, with battery storage it would be closer to £8000. So even if it managed to half your electric bill that’s a saving of £240 a year at the moment.

I already have solar panels so my return isn’t going to be great.

The increase in electricity from 1st of April and again in October will see faster payback times.

I also got my house valued recently and they said it would add value to the house.

Any reason for the sarcasm? If you’re so upset about what I’m saying try not to say anything at all.

Why do you think I'm being sarcastic? Typically you're into double digits of years before a system pays for itself so around three years is amazing. I'm very keen to see more details.

Edit:

I see you've posted above.

Is it £1,500 or £240?

"So Prime Minister, you have a choice in front of you: wind energy is now cheaper to produce than gas and a turbine can be up and producing electricity within a year and we have huge potential in this country, or nuclear which cost an astronimical amount of money and you won't see any return within 10 years. But it makes us look important, also the french have lots of nuclear'"
There is an additional 30GW of wind connecting to the Grid in the next 5-6 years.

What Europe should be doing is trying to figure out a way to share generation via renewables so that countries can offload their excess when they have it
You mean like an interconnector :p
