Energy Suppliers

I thought about doing that but prices seem to all go up around the same time, matter of time before Octopus do it. Plus signing up with a referral gives a decent discount.

eon have a new (solely?) uswitch 12month/£60escape scheme;
for me, would be same as increased bulb tarif,

coincidence they just introduced that ?

huh got this email from octopus

Hello mark, Really sorry - the industry body that oversees switching (XOSERVE) has stopped your move to us.

This could be because we've got the wrong postcode, your property is used for commercial purposes, or you've switched (or tried to switch) in the last 28 days.

We'd love to get your switch moving again, so please could you reply to this email confirming:

  1. Your full address (including postcode)
  2. Your property is domestic (not used for business)
  3. You've not switched or tried to switch in the last 28 days

So with Bulb we've got until the 11th Nov until the price increases for existing customers. I think I'll hold out until nearer that time before making my decision on who to switch to.

You could wait. But there's a fair bit of risk in doing so. Bulb's reasoning for the price rises is sound. It seems likely other providers will follow suit.

Guys I've been overpaying on my bulb account to build some credit ahead of an addition to the family which will see a big increase in usage.

I had the same email from bulb about the increase which I'm not happy about and would like to switch. How easily do they reimburse any credit?

I had my refund the same day they sent me a email saying that I would be refunded in the next 14 days. Switchover from Bulb to Utility point was 15th July, got my final bill from Bulb on 24th July along with the email about my refund and my actual refund. It was the best hassle free change from one company to another and the fastest refund of credit that I have ever had.

Just started looking into changing from Eon, been with them since 2008 when i bought my house and im finally fed up of increasing prices.
Current deal runs out in a few weeks and they say i am going to be paying about £1800 a year which is £500 more than i do now

The MSE service will tell you when you can save more than £X by switching (you choose the threshold). It'll give you all of the information you need and let you make your mind up as to who to switch to.

LAMB will do the whole lot for you. They'll change your provider on your behalf when they can get you a better deal. But, at least from my experience, the deals aren't as good as via MSE. LAMB won't use new suppliers, so no Octopus, no Bulb, etc. Often these companies are the cheapest, and some of them offer the best service in the industry.

Using LAMB would be better than staying with the same provider for 10 years. But using MSE will save you more money (if you do the minimal legwork to keep on top of switching).

Its hard for me to estimate my gas usage for the coming year to find out whether anyone will be cheaper than Flow. I've just had a renewal through which is just over 20% more expensive than last year. Last winter I had my heating on tick over 24/7 for a few months to combat a damp issue from the previous owner. Racked up a few hundred quid debit which I've now paid off after they upped my DD to £60 a month (average use for the last 3 months was £13/m!) :p

I could go dual fuel this year though, I had to go with EDF for my electricity last year as they were the only company who would remove a prepay meter without running a credit check and I had a weird credit issue after moving. My current electric bill is between £15 and £20 a month so not really bothered if it isn't the absolute cheapest, it will be there or thereabouts.
