England Captaincy

People seem to be forgetting the main reason he wasn't captain anymore, role model has nothing to do with it, he absolutely, completely screwed over a team mate who was also a close personal friend. IT was his relationship with THE PLAYERS that was in question, their trust in him or lack of respect hurts his position as captain.

He banged a bird that used to be with his mate.

I'm pretty sure that happens all the time.

What does a captain actually do?

Motivation on the pitch
A leader
The 'face' of the team
A senior member of the team to look after the youngsters
Media work
Press conferences...........

The list is endless really, they are expected to do quite a bit apart from just play football.

Or in John Terry's case, anything they ****ing want.

Terry showed at the WC that captain or no captain, he does whatever he likes.

He's somebody that values his own opinion too highly. When Mourinho finally got the bullet at Chelsea, it was widely reported at the time that Terry played a major role in his sacking.

He's a big man that's why.

Bridge doesn't play. He should have backed his captain to the hilt.

Didn't say he did, I said he broke the trust of his team mates.

Not when half the dressing room couldn't stand the guy. It's pretty obvious few like or back him when they hung him out to dry at the world cup.

Yup, Terry was right in the world cup, and Capello made changes afterwards, the other guys were scared little girls, a captain needs to stand up to the manager when the manager is a moron.

and when there's a kid involved it's normally frowned upon.

As said, he was banging his "best friends" kid's mother, if Bridge didn't care that was one thing, from the reaction its pretty obvious he did indeed care, being one of Bridge's closest mates, supposedly, you'd think he'd know.

Banging some bird who no one cares about is entirely different to banging the ex of your friend when they have kids and are still "involved" on one level or another.

Terry's seems like a **** off the pitch, a classless buffoon, but a good leader on the pitch and a very very good CB, one has nothing to do with the other, if the players will accept him as captain thats all that matters. Capello's constant going back on every plan he has for the team however seems pretty indicative of his lack of plan to actually win a cup or improve England, seeing as England have been the same team for years and Capello's been too scared to drop the big names for the big games.

Seems like a nice time for Rio to quit International football to concentrate on his club career to me!

The club career where he misses a 1/3 of the games or more through injury?

(Reasonable comparison with Evra who has made 34 appearances/28 in the league, compared to Rio who has made 20 apps/15 in the league)

And thats an improvement on the two previous seasons.

Can either team rely on him enough to be worthy of a space?

Personally think Smalling should be considered 1st choice (with Vidic), and get another centre half in to cover (as JE and Brown arent reliable enough either)

As for the England Captaincy, dont think either should have it - Terry is a little toe-rag, Lampard has been off the boil for England at least for a while, cant think of anything worse than the scouser being permanent England captain lol

His club career would be in better shape if he wasn't paraded out for England for every pointless opportunity.

Ask Giggs, Scholes and Carragher what it did for them.

Terry doesn't deserve to be captain, but I can't really think who would. Maybe Gerrard. Rio 'Forgot a drugs test' Ferdinand definitely not.

Our England team is a bunch of yobs and losers. It's pretty sad really.

i read some of capello's contradictions in the telegraph earlier, the bloke's a clown tbh and is grinning with one heck of a pay cheque!

Well Capello has well and truly made sure the farce of his tenure is now complete if he reinstates Terry as Captain.

Should he have had the armband took off him for none footballing reasons, probably not. So to go back to him now after pretty much passing the band to everyone else in the last friendly is an absolute Joke.

How about the FA actually have some balls about this situation and start planning for the future. They are so far in debt they can't afford to do this. Everything the FA & Capello do stinks of short termism. Will Terry be playing at the top of his game in time for the next world cup, will he fun. Rip the rule books up and lets look long term with the mix of some the very best young English talent if such a thing still exists. Ban the media from any training session to stop them building these young players up only to knock them back down twice as far.

I maintain that England need a £5m a year manager. BUT NOT RIGHT NOW OR IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE !!!. That money should be invested in grass roots to develop the talent of tomorrow. Get the grassroots right and then you can have the best manager in the world managing the best players.

We are in such dissaray that we should be planning for the 2026 world cup finals right now. Get some kids who know how to play ball and compete at the very highest level. Not fall at the first hurdle against countrys who footballing infrastructure is some a 40 a side game on a muddy field in the middle of some War torn African Despot. That is the state of English football folks, we are an international joke. Only compounded with Beaker as the manager
