Nope, he was bought as a backup for Woody, not a replacement.
Rooney and Wilshere are the only 2 youngsters that are pretty much guaranteed starters and I wouldn't give it either of those.
Some real strange goings on. You'd have to assume that it was the FA's decision to strip Terry of the captaincy to begin with (although, why would they change their mind now) and not Capello's. Even so, it's become a real mess.
Interesting quotes from Capello about Ferdinand refusing to meet him (well he says 'preferred not to meet us') when he was at OT for the Marseille game.
No doubt Taggart will be in Ferdinand's ear, encouraging him to call it a day and tbf, it's probably the best thing for Ferdinand.
Only thing I found strange was a year ago when Capello indicated that Terry wouldn't regain the captaincy at any time, was a bit foolish for him to close the door like that, he should have been non-commital in case the need arose in future.
Lets be frank guys we had Ashley Cole as England captain the other day, if it's come to that then it may as well be Terry.
There was no meeting arranged. Capello arrogantly assumed he could just "have a word" with Rio at the game. Rio heard the statements being made about a meeting and took Rooneys executive box to watch the game in leaving Capello with no one to talk to.
Regardless of anyones opinion on who should or shouldnt be captain its yet another example of total mismanagement of players by Capello. Love or hate Rio the least he deserved was to be told first and face to face.
The England manager arrogantly assumed that he could talk to 1 of the England players without making an appointment with him?
And the 2nd paragraph?
Capello tried to talk to him twice before the announcement last night. Of course the rumours were doing the rounds that he was going to give it back to Terry permanently after Capello told the press he was considering giving Terry the captaincy back for the Wales game.
If Ferdinand thinks the England manager needs to make an appointment to talk to him (not say he does, but you seem to think so) then any decision about him retiring from international football should be taken out of his hands.
I don't know what Baldini said (neither do you) to Ferdinand, if anything. All we know is that Capello told the press that he was considering giving Terry the captaincy for the Wales game. It was the wrong thing to do because it sparked all the rumours (which turned out to be true) that Terry was going to get it permenantly. Capello did attempt to talk to Ferdinand before the annoucment was made though.
I dont see why you are making an issue. other than it being because it involves a Man Utd player.
Rio was going to the game last week, why should he do anything to be available for Capello unless he is asked? He watched the game in Rooneys private box as he has every right to do.
What Baldini said has been widely reported by the press. One man was saying it was only for the Wales game, another was saying it was a permanent change.
Surely its not too much to ask that they at least get the story right?
