England Captaincy

How every story involving England seems to get leaked to the media before any announcement is beyond me.

Nothing was leaked. Capello directly told the press that he was considering Terry as captain for Wales and predictably the press went wild (but to be fair, they called it spot on). Capello should have known better than to say anything at all to the press before making an official announcement.

So, Capello lets the media know that Terry may be captain for the Wales game since Rio is out and the media ALL report that it will be permanent.. and they ALL guessed right?

And they guessed this without any inside information?

Its quite amusing reading the last few posts, you are able to decide which media information is factually correct, which is rumor and which is BS.

I haven't made a big deal of anything. I'm shocked at your opinion that the England manager needs to make an appointment to talk to 1 of his players.

And going by Capello's statement yesterday, Capello must have asked to talk to Ferdinand (and he was pictured sitting just behind Capello at yesterdays game) as he claimed that Ferdinand preferred not to meet him.

And what is reported in the press can't be taken as fact.

How do you expect these things to happen?

You think its fine for Capello to announce to the media that he will speak to Rio at the game yet have nothing in place to do so?

He turns up at the game and there is no sign of Rio and somehow its Rios fault?!

Should Rio have been watching Sky Sports News to find out if he is still the captain?!

Firstly I've not seen, heard or read anything that has said that Capello didn't make Ferdinand aware that he planned to talk to him. Just what you have said. Secondly, Ferdinand was sitting 2 rows behind Capello at the game yesterday. So there was a sign of Rio. And thirdly, Capello clearly said that Ferdinand didn't want to meet him. That means Ferdinand had been asked to meet with Capello.

I have no problem with Ferdinand meeting with Capello or not. I found your opinion that Capello needed to book an appointment with Ferdinand as shocking and I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to claim now; that Ferdinand had no idea Capello wanted to talk to him, their paths never crossed and Capello's making this stuff up about Ferdinand refusing to meet him as Ferdinand didn't know there was a meeting (seemingly with nothing to back this up)?

All I initially said was that it was interesting what Capello said regarding Ferdinand not meeting him. It's interesting because it shows that Ferdinand is ****ed off and because Capello has openly admitted that 1 of his players has snubbed him.

You are so pedantic its unbelievable.

We can break it down to the very simple and ignore everything else to avoid this pedantic stuff though.

You knew Terry was the new captain before Rio Ferdinand did.

That is the bottom line.

Everything else is irrelevant.

There are 27 different reasons why Capello is wrong but they dont matter. He should have met with Rio before he did anything else.

What are you on about now?

I've said all along that Capello shouldn't have said anything to the press before making an official announcement.

You've responded to me saying Capello's comments regarding Ferdinand were interesting by making up some crap about how Ferdinand didn't decide not to speak to Capello as no meeting was planned/Ferdinand knew nothing about any meeting, and when proven wrong, you're now changing your argument to something I've not questioned once

I have not "been proven wrong", you giving a different opinion is not proving me wrong.

I did not "make up any crap"

sorry you cant see pastthe obvious.

By all means quote my "crap" and i will be happy to explain it to you.

You're right, I've given a different opinion but unlike your opinion, I've backed my opinion up.

If you can back up your claims that no meeting was arranged/Ferdinand had no idea about the meeting etc etc then fair enough, I suspect you can't though and you've just made it up.

You were right in what you said in your previous post. This is fairly irrelevant. I'm not sure why you quoted what I initially said to begin with. Actually I do, you saw me mention Ferdinand and automatically went on the defensive thinking I was being critical of Ferdinand. I wasn't though :)

Its not my job to prove that something didnt exist.

It didnt exist

Prove it did.

There was no meeting.

You cannot prove that something does not exist, in itself that is silly.

Ive been a lurker on here for ages and i really dont want to be getting into an issue with you cos for what its worth i think you are one of the best posters on the footy forum.

Just on a side note, the england manager doesnt have any players, he has other peoples players.

If he wants to talk to someone at their place of work about their outside interests, he really should be doing it formally, just as you would in any other industry.

Its like me rolling up where you work expecting to talk to you about the forums.

Terry shouldn't be in the England team, let alone captain. He is a trouble causer, probably not deliberately either. We have plenty of new young blood that could cover his defensive ability. That's just my opinion mind.

I can only think Capello's given up battling Terry's influence in the dressing room, which obviously did us the world of no good in the world cup.

Sack Capello - England haven't improved since he's taken over and he still plays the same thugs/useless players that done rubbish during the world cup.

Parker for captain - set's an example, not banged a team mates missus (ex or not) and a good role model for the children of today ;)

^That's the point I'm making, the only person who is saying Wilshere is a guarenteed starter is Capello, not the FA, and we can't be sure he will still be England manager after Euro2012. If he's not England manager, the new guy might pick a different team - why would you have Wilshere down as a guarenteed starter for a country that can boast Gerrard and Parker (I'm assuming Lampard will be 'past it')?

My as well hijack this thread to discuss the full squad:

Goalkeepers: Ben Foster (Birmingham), Robert Green (West Ham), Joe Hart (Man City).
Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Bolton), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Michael Dawson (Tottenham), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Joleon Lescott (Man City), John Terry (Chelsea, capt), Kyle Walker (Aston Villa).
Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Man City), Stewart Downing (Aston Villa), Matt Jarvis (Wolves), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), James Milner (Man City), Scott Parker (West Ham), Ashley Young (Aston Villa), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).
Strikers: Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd).

Only allowed 7 subs for competitive matches afaik, so lets work out the 8 players we don't want involved against Wales:

Green
Dawson
Walker
Lescott
Defoe
Jarvis
Barry
Carroll

Not as easy as I thought it might be.

You've hit the nail on the head. The most frustrating thing is that Barry will probably start ahead of players who have performed far better this season.

Thing is Capello loves Wilshere and seems to have this idea that he is a sitting midfielder, which would surely leave Barry out in the cold.

Team I can see Capello picking:

.....................Hart
Johnson...Jagielka.....Terry......Cole
Lennon...Lampard...Wilshere...Young
.............Carroll....Rooney

Only question marks I'd say are whether he'd take someone else alongside Terry, maybe not start with Carroll, and you can never be sure about who will start at left mid for England.
