The fact that there's even a debate about Trent going to the WC is mental. Is he the best defender in the world? Nope but neither are any of the alternatives. Had we been talking about Trent or a CB that's been converted to a RB then you could at least understand the logic if a manager wants to go a certain way and not have his fullbacks cross the halfway line but when the alternatives are Kyle Walker and Trippier, it's laughable.
I saw Neville on Monday Night Football the other month discussing it and he raised the point about Trent coming up against the best forwards later in the competition. Has he been living in a bunker for the last few seasons? Trent's came up against them all and influenced the game in a positive way far more than he has in a negative way. What made that argument even worse was the fact that Liverpool have played against both Walker and Trippier in big CL games and they were both hugely responsible for their sides losing those games - Trippier gets caught out in the opening 15 seconds of a CL final which led to our opening goal, losing Spurs a CL final and Walker made an absolute howler in the 17/18 quarter final that led to our opening goal which then sparked a 20 minute spell where he and City's defence got run ragged and lost them the tie.
England have far from the best squad in the world but they've got enough good footballers to go to the Euros and have a proper go, not to play like a Pulis or Allardyce side. In Trent, Stones, Chillwell, Henderson, Mount, Foden & Sterling they've got a group of players that have played progressive, passing football at the highest level for their club sides. Throw in the likes of Rice, Grealish, Sancho & Kane and you can easily put together a side that are all proven to be able to play front foot fooball and hold their own.
