England Manager.

I wouldnt want Mclaren anywhere near the england set up, in any capacity.

None of the english candidates are good enough to manage england.

McClaren, does not in any way deserve the job, he manages a mid-table team that does not look to be making any significant progression within the league, he has had a few outstanding results and just as many apauling ones. IMO like sven he barely has a plan A let alone a plan B.

The England manager does not only need to keep morale.

The England manager needs to be able to choose the right team for the right opponents, discuss tactics, strategy, he needs to be aware of his teams strengths and weaknesses, as well as those of his opponents, he needs to have the vision and awareness of who are the top players in the country and those that are currently in form. He needs to know how to movate and man manage. He needs to have the balls to accept there is a problem and change it.

I don't think Mclaren can do any of those let alone all of them. At least Sven is stepping down now, so that we have a 2 years to see if the next manager can cut it.

This is basically it.
There is no coaching to do in the england set up, what exaclty are you going to coach?
You have picked the 22 or however many best players the country has to offer, and you have a couple of days to go before a match, what is there to teach? what is there to learn?
All the manager needs to do is get them watching a couple of the oppositions matches on tape or whatever, and tell the players how he wants them to play.
Sven, doesnt even do that, he picks the team and sends them out, no one knows who is holding or going, whether they are supposed to be playing to feet whether they are supposed to playing out to the wings and cutting in, or going to the byline.

I cant See Mclaren doing anything differently, he will get the job though, because he will do as the FA tell him to do, which is basically make sure Beckham is picked, and make sure he is captain.

Give it to the top placed English Manager in the EPL at the moment:

He's shown in the last few months that he can motivate players, even when they are at their lowest ebb.

He'll be free in the summer.

He has experience of working within the England set-up

Step forward Glen Roeder (And step forward Martin O'Neill to Newcastle)

lol funny how opinions change

during Sven's reign (mainly euro 2004) most of the people on this forum where saying stuff like
"Sven out" or "dump the swede" :D and Mclaren in etc

now Sven is out and Mclaren looks likey to get the job everyone is saying he is the worse choice

personally i dont think he should get the job
as he is most likey going to play exactly the same way Sven did

i would like Scolari to get the job

The english managers in the running dont cut the mustard; i really wanted hiddink but now it has to be Scolari - he is proven quality at international level and can handle the big players, he did so with Brazil so he can definately do it for England. He is the best man for the job, end of.

I think the FA is doing themselves more harm than good with this "must appoint a manager before the WC" approach. As has happened with Scolari, his current national team are none too happy about the FA approaching him while he's still with them. They want his mind on their team, not Englands, and rightly so too. It's the same complaint we've had about Sven when Chelsea were throwing cash at him, only the other way around.

Furthermore, if we've missed out on Capello, Hiddink, and Scolari because they didn't want to talk new teams during a still-running season, then the FA are a complete bunch of tools. All three of those managers knock spots of the best England can offer (+ O'Neill), and we'd be mad to turn them away in favour of the chance that a overblown midtabler might inspire some "passion" in the team (as though foreigners couldn't possibly understand national pride, or something).

Drop him into the reserves that would get him playing at his best again.

Its a shame Shawn Wright-Phillips went to Chelski as it would have been nice for him to get more games to be ready for the summer. Image what he would have been like with a year of games under his belt.

Shame about Walcott as well. Would have been nice to see him in an Arsenal shirt a few times this year.

Personally, I wanted Scolari before he was linked with the job some 6 months back.

My reason, he plays BEAUTIFUL football! He did it with Brazil and he does it with Portugal.

If he couldn't Beautiful football with Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Cole, Owen and Beckham in your team I'd be amazed. We have players who are technically better than any player Scolari had in 2002 with Brazil or in 2004 with Portugal.

They're two of the players I want to see most of.

SWP stuns me everytime he gets in the box, regardless whether he scores or not. His speed is amazing.

Portugal reveal pact with Scolari

Portuguese Football Federation chairman Gilberto Madail says coach Luiz Felipe Scolari would not agree to become the next England boss before the World Cup.

Scolari has denied being interviewed by the Football Association about becoming Sven-Goran Eriksson's replacement.

Madail said Scolari will decide on his future only when his deal with the Portugal team ends in late July.

"We have got a gentlemen's agreement and it will not be broken. I've got his word and that's it," said Madail.

The Football Association want to announce Eriksson's successor before this summer's World Cup finals in Germany and Scolari, who guided Brazil to World Cup glory in 2002, is reported to be high on their shortlist.

However, Scolari told BBC Radio Five Live on 24 April that he is only concentrating on masterminding Portugal's World Cup campaign.

"I have a contract with Portugal until 31 July and until this day I am coach of Portugal," he said.

"I don't think about England. If I think about England, I forget Portugal. That is not my job now, just Portugal."

Scolari's agent Acaz Felleger added: "He just needs a good World Cup and after this he might talk about his future."

And Madail added: "I do not believe the reports running in the British press. Scolari is a professional like any other.

"We will only make a decision after the World Cup. July 31 is the right time to talk about this issue.

"Our main concern at the moment is to make our dreams real at the World Cup."

Scolari and Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren have emerged as favourites for the post of England boss.

However, Bolton manager Sam Allardyce insisted on Tuesday that he was still in the frame for the position.
