England V India ***Clash of the Heavyweights*** Test, T20 and ODI Series

Interestingly though if Trott doesn't play in the next Test it does leave a bit of a hole, our top six batting order has been settled for so long I haven't really heard about any other options other than Bopara who is fail and going to 5 bowlers. That said maybe Bopara at 6 or whatever wouldn't be the end of the world now that Bell has found a bit of toughness which eluded him for so long.

It would be interesting to play Bresnan and Tremlett as the lower-order batters are pretty decent, but I suppose at the moment the 4-bowler policy is settled and we don't appear to be having trouble bowling India out (touch wood). I think it'd be a good time to bring in James Taylor and blood him - he played very well against the touring Sri Lanka side (both with Leics and the Lions) and I think he's an excellent prospect.

To be fair, I still think India should be able to provide more competition than they are, so I don't think it's impossible that they could win the next test.

Their biggest failings have come from their inability to post a decent score. With a team including Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman. That's practically unforgivable.

If those three (or at least, the latter two, Dravid's done well already) can find proper form, and India actually manage a decent knock, the next test could be a lot closer.

Well not really. It's probably named that because India are World Cup Champions and were ranked #1 Test side in the world.

Would be the same if it was the other way around, that's if England can win a World Cup though - their test side is undoubtedly much much stronger.

India have never had decent bowlers in the first place, and it just shows in conditions where they aren't suited to. Hopefully they can learn from this series, that playing in the IPL and then resting players in some Tests isn't the best way to keep a high ranking. I guess it would also help more if a few of them played Cricket over here and not just the IPL for money.

I haven't been really keeping up for the last few months. Whats has happened to Finn?

With the way they were handling the bouncers the other day surely it's worth giving him a go if someones out, the batting is very deep so if Trott can't make it i wouldn't have an issue with another bowler to replace him.

This is all considering the comments from the last few days about Edgebaston being a similar wicket to TB.

Nothing actaully, he's still very good and taking wickets in CC- i.e. yes we do have a ridiculously good bowling line-up :p

I can't see England abandoning their 4 bowler policy soon. It's working for them having Anderson/Swann and then two from Broad/Tremlett/Bresnan. Anderson and Swan are sure picks because of their bowling plus batting potential. Tremlett was in fine form before the injury and Broad/Bresnan are both making excellent cases to not be dropped. So surely the only way in the near future for Finn to get a game, apart from us playing on a pitch very much suited to him and no-one else in the bowling department, would be for two of the bowlers to be injured and Finn to be a replacement.

I hope they don't put bell in 3 and bring back an old failed batsman. No young players out there that can be given a try?

I hope they do put Bell back at 3 - and then try a young batsman down the order! Surely you wouldn't want to give someone their debut in such a big series?

In terms of youngsters - James Taylor would be the first in line. Batting average just under 50 (52 this season), although he's a middle order batsman rather than opener at present - and given Strauss is likely to be the next one to go that's what we need to be looking at really, unless Trott was to open. James Hildreth seemed next in line but he's not had a great season, same for Michael Carberry.

Alex Hales is coming along well, but he's a few years away yet, same with Joe Root. England do seem to have a good crop of young players who have just come into the county scene and could well come good in 2-3 years

Have to agree on the idea to get new blood in. I don't really follow CC beyond Yorkshire, but Bopara has had more than his fair share of chances. I'd love to see Rashid and Root given a shot, but I can only see Root given a sniff. As good as Rashid is (and let's not forget he's a leggy) Swann has the spin spot locked down - and Root is still a long way off the full test team.

It's great that we have the choice, I just hope we make the right one :)

Considering how ever since Trott joined the test side, either Strauss or Cook seem to be out within a few overs, he's basically been opening as it is so no worries there :p

Good point. The only decent partnerships I can think of from Strauss/Cook in the last year or so was at Brisbane & Melbourne!

Are people hoping for a whitewash then? Or do you want to see a closely fought series?

I'm not sure what I want. I think India should be (and most probably will be) punished for not preparing properly. Would be nice to see a fight back though.

I hope for a whitewash for India's sake.
If they pull it back to 2-2 then its just going to paper over the cracks and they'l stroll into the next series under-prepared.. the fans deserve better.
