Drawing the line at a horse for Owen

He may well be into his horses, but that doesn't cover the fact he's been there for United at crucial moments this season and has shown himself to be near his best again this season, he's just plagued with injuries.

We need Michael Owen and Owen Hargreaves in the squad, more so to the latter as he can play as a defensive midfielder a lot better than Gareth Barry.

Gary Neville should have been selected for this tournament too, as Glen Johnson is overrated and was shocking during this tournament.

Would that be the same Gary Neville that was being ridiculed for his performances for Man United not so long ago? :o

You're not suggesting football fans are fickle are you? With the benefit of 20:20 hindsight Gary Neville probably couldn't have done much worse than Glen Johnson and with the added bonus that if England had still done badly he's already hated by A.B.U.s anyway.

However from the perspective of a (faintly) impartial observer I don't think you can lay the blame for the team performances on any one person, too many people not performing as you'd think they should from the manager on down to the players.

Do you have any idea what kind of teams are 30th-40th?

Here's some guidance:
FIFA ranks Australia as #20 and Serbia #25

Are you really saying that England are far worse ability wise than Australia?

Seriously, if you say yes, it is obvious that you just too much of an idiot to eat your evidently wrong words
Algeria who we played terrible against are 30th, Ghana who have played fantastically this tournament are 32nd. Either way I revise it to around 30, as I got confused between slovakia and slovenia :D

The USA played better than us in this tournament.

They really have played terribly in these finals against teams that should have been a walkover for a team in the top 10.

ok going forward. First 11 for 2012?

Milner on the right, are you having a laugh from about 30 crosses he found a man twice. It's too early to tell how I'd move forward for 2012 but the team sure as hell wouldn't include G Johnson, Milner, Terry or Cattermole.

My bet is the ball will get blamed, along with the tiring season the players have had and then the same core of 7-8 players will carry on being played with the inclusion of rio back from injury.

A Cole - In the process of being divorced. Possibly thinking about where he will be playing next season.
J Terry - At odds with manager, looks to be holding a grudge towards him.
Gerrard - Didn't look as though he wanted to be captain, playing out of position made it worse. Thinking about where he will be playing next season.
Lampard - Just looked knackered.
Rooney - Easily frustrated by lack of talent in squad, shown during warm up games especially. Also knackered/not fit.

Given the personal problems of these supposed world class players and spine of the team its not surpsing the team as a whole was unable to perform, especially given the apparent strict Capello regime in a tournament scenario. With these players so obviously unhappy in the camp there was never going to be any team cohesiveness in this world cup.

The question is then is whether Cappello is ever going to recapture the one thing which worked in his favour during the qualifiers, i.e. keeping everyone on their toes for selection, as it is quite clear that when alltogether in a tournament the current crop of players do not respond in the same way at all to this atmosphere of will I or won't I be playing. Add a dose of personal problems to this mix and it is obviously a recipe for disaster for the Euros.

Average players we hype up to being world class when they are clearly not

Pressure from media to perform

A manager that lost it at an inappropriate time

Lack of selection - this will only get worse

why does the ball need to go into the goal? is there some special reason for it? the goal of the game is the goal? like a lot of games it's rather silly really is'nt it.

chase ball, score goal, win. repeat for infinity but why? it's not really fun is it?
meh football...

Lolwut?

The Germans are just better than us. Destroyed with pace, good passing and intelligence. Something most of our players lack in one way or another. We were outplayed and exposed.

The inflexible attitude of the manager towards formation has been a major factor since the qualifying stages.
There were simply not enough players in our midfield, whether they were attacking or defending MF players is not the main point.
Time and again what MF players we had were distracted, watching the ball and failing to notice the movement of other German players. Ozils tactics were a classic example of this.

"Classical" 4-4-2 formation must be re-examined in England's case.

The formation was the key to Englands failure, as soon as i saw the Germans formation, i immediately said '****', because i knew we were going to play 4-4-2. The Germans closed the centre of midfield and the wings with their formation, for England, their was a great big gap going down the centre of the infamous 4-4-2 formation which the Germans exploited throughout the game.

That might have had something to do with attacking full backs not being able to get back quick enough.. Let's not make excuses...442, 541, 54321 the Germans and in fact the 4 games we played showed just how average our players are.

Simple fact is, there is no youth talent at all.

Milner
Walcott
Johnson
Smalling
Jones
Cattermole

There is no other choice.
