English League & European Football [2nd Apr - 8th Apr 2010] **spoilers**

haha you are serious ? bayern aren't even "that good" just face it utd lost to one of the lesser sides left in the tournament.

Utd simply have no cutting edge in europe they have played virtually 5-4-1 most of the time talk about one man team.

Haha are you serious??/....they are obviously better than most teams including Utd to have got to the semi finals dont you think??. Lesser sides??...lol just lol at that..

I honestly didn't think it had any affect at all whether he'd already been given a card, I've seen 2 yellows for 2 nothing challenges before, Rafael was already pushing it for lashing out off the ball which some ref's would call a red, maybe he was lucky to stay on there?

I don't think it had any effect on the refs mind tonight (hence he gave the second yellow) but i do think it plays on some refs minds which is where the inconsistency stems from. Its in the same vein as fouls which aren't given inside the box becuase it would lead to a penalty. They are technically fouls and the majority of the time they will be given as free kicks outside the area, as soon as its in the box though....

As for Rafael i can't remember much about the previous fouls in all honesty so its difficult for me to comment but if as you say he was lucky not to have been sent off already then he was definitely pushing his luck :(

Don't take your clothes off without pulling the blinds down first?

I think you knew where we was going with that post PK. All well and good slating Fergie and calling him a hypocrite about the Germans surrounding the ref. Yet (as usual Liverpool fans with selective memories) you seem to forget Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano and Carragher are always first to the ref brandishing the imaginary card.

I am sure it would be refreshing as a Liverpool fan to see some of your big name players put as much effort in either scoring or defending as they do in hounding the ref.

Yes it is and specifically in Europe it's 99 out of 100. Ribery's running away from him and he's pulled his arm, it's a fairly easy decision.

No, in the refs eye it was a fair decision, you scored 3 goals and lost on AGG, from a team that has won the EPL for the last 3 years, thats poor.

Really? We need to go back and look at every shirt pulling decision ever then, because not many of those were straight yellow cards?

No point being pedantic about it, if a player is running towards goal with the ball and he gets hindered from behind he should be yellowed.

Seriously all our teams especially international side need to do what is done unto us time and again.Yes we have players that dive etc but it's nowhere near the level of germans spanish italians portugese.

We need to start rolling around play acting at every opportunity we get to get players booked or win free kicks.Because the governing bodies are never going to change the culture of these players they will continue to play act and trying to cheat and get away with it.

I too am surprised to see the Man Utd fans dismayed at it, seems a very obvious decision to me, the two Man Utd fans I was with knew straight away

Do you expect anything less though??...i mean if it was on the other foot then im sure the Utd fans would say it was the right decision.

Makes me laugh at the people saying that Ribery conned the ref...ermm he didnt need to..it was Rafaels stupidity that cost him a red card...first half yellow for retailiating...should have been sent off for that in all honesty;).

lol, where's that come from? :p

If we're naming players that try to influence the ref; Ferdinand, Rooney, Fletcher and Valencia :p

IINM, Pigeon simply pointed out that Fergie was showing his usual class not calling him a hypocrite ;)

Thats the point though, he wasn't hindered. He stopped of his own accord so he could throw an arm at Rafael.

9/10 that is not a second yellow, no chance. If he had not have been booked then most refs give a yellow sure, but few give a second yellow. I don't mind if all refs start doing this but the inconsistency is what makes me angry.

A yellow is a yellow, whether it's the first, second or, if Graham Poll is reffing, third.

The UTD fans need to wake up a bit here they all seem to be on their high horses!

Lets be honest the UTD squad isnt all that you have one exceptional player in Rooney and the rest are lagging behind. You didnt do enough on the night should have got another, you missed chances and Bayern took the ones they needed.

Time to get over it that team isnt strong enough to be in a final imo.

That is nonsense. If we had 11 men I'm sure we would have won. The red card changed the game massively.

No what should be done is getting the refs to crack down on that sort of behaviour...i find it pathetic when other teams do it ie its cringeworthy but its down to the ref to stamp it out.
I dont agree with English teams using the same tactics in all honesty...id rather us beat those teams that employ such tactics fair and square....sadly it doesnt happen all that much these days.

Well as a liverpool fan I must say I am happy with tonights result, but I think the fault should sit firmly on the managers shoulders for this, 3-0 up at home and you lose! Shocking. Carrick - terrible, Rafael should have known better.

Exactly my point Young Barry.

Rich from PK to say Fergie is a hypocrite when nearly every single team top to bottom has players who hound the ref all the game through.

This but if a player makes a stupid mistake in the heat of the moment, we all know refs like to get the cards out, Beckham 98, Rooney stamp, etc. its silly little mistakes that should never happened but do that costs teams.

By your own admission Rafael was holding his arm, if you hold someone's arm from behind when they're running that'll hinder them good enough.
