English League Football [6th - 10th Feb 2010] **spoilers**

You said.

Our record against the top 6-7 in the past season and 2/3rds, has been completely horrific. Hell, we also only managed one draw and one loss against Fulham.

I'm assuming that the 2/3rds bit is this season? In which case you are saying that we aren't performing against the teams around us. With the exception of the top two, and the away game at City, we are performing very well at the moment against teams in the top half.

So what you are saying there is statistically wrong.

You can't have it both ways.

A little while ago you were saying that we didn't take enough points off of the other teams in the top half, then when its pointed out we have this season, you make excuses for those teams.

Whoever we have or haven't beaten this season, the facts are that at the moment, we have gained enough points to be in 3rd place. I know that yourself and many don't agree but for me thats about right in light of who we are competing with. Its pointless speculating what could have been as every team in the league could do the same.

Arsenal have done more than enough to be in 3rd, they deserve to be there and to be honest, at the start of the season I reckon nearly every Arsenal fan would have snatched your hand off if you'd have offered them this first half to the season.

I'm usually optimistic about Arsenal but they've exceeded my expectations

How many teams from the top half did you list us getting 6 points against so far?

We STILL haven't taken enough points off the top half of the table, and I can tell that, because we're 9 points off the lead, if we'd taken enough points off those teams, we'd be level with Chelsea and Utd. If we'd taken points of Chelsea and Utd aswell we could be in the lead in a very strong position

You live in a fantasy world. Who, consistently, takes 6 points off of other teams in the top half? Chelsea maybe?

I can tell you that Liverpool, Villa, Fulham, Spurs, Birmingham and Everton won't be taking 6 point from us this season. How many of those teams have consistently taken 6 points from the others? I can't be arsed to check but I can tell you now that its very unlikely that it has happened.

Hypothetically, its still possible that we could take six points from Liverpool, Spurs, Fulham and Birmingham. How many of those teams could say the same at the moment?

Back on ignore for you dude as all you seem to do is disagree with facts with walls of text. Either that or your maths are way out.

Aye comfortably.

Of course with another 1 or 2 defeats we could be dragged into a battle for 4th but then 1 or 2 defeats for any team at this stage would be very bad, even Chelsea.

Expectation is the key word here. Our run after the 0-3 to Chelsea seems to have given Arsenal fans the impression we should be challenging for the league, but we are still comfortably behind the resources of Chelsea and at Utd, the only manager I rate over Wenger.

I think it's pretty amusing that despite the first half of the season when Liverpool had thrown away Champs League qualification, when Spurs, Villa and City were all going to overtake Arsenal and Liverpool, a glance at the league table shows:

1. Chelsea
2. Man Utd
3. Arsenal
4. Liverpool
5. Tottenham
6. Man City
7. Aston Villa

:p

The thing is, even if Arsenal do lose one or two, so will every body else, I expect every team around Arsenal to lose a few and draw a few between now and the end of the season, not even Chelsea are immune to crap results at Hull etc.

That's why I think things will be fine, just because Arsenal have had a ridiculously hard fortnight the spotlight, media bullcrap and criticism is obviously on them, but it won't be soon

I think it will be

1, Man Utd
2, Chelsea
3, Arsenal
4, Man City
5, Tottenham
6, Aston Villa
7, Liverpool

I wonder what odds I would get for that right now.

And I think 4,5 and 6 will be very very close.

This.

I was amazed to see the negativity to the Villa away game. At any other time of the season it would have been seen as a good result (and one many Arsenal fans may have taken before the game).

The focus for our season has come down to these 4 games, regardless of anything else that happens. Even before these games my focus was the 17th Feb 2010.

As a Liverpool supporter my only concern is City. I don't think Villa or Spurs are strong enough to get fourth but even if one should get it this season I wouldn't be worried about them holding on to it next season. City get in to the top four and they'll just spam more and more money until they eventually win the league. Whether that be this season or the next it certainly won't be with Mancini in charge.

Pool are where they wanted to be, 4th. I cant see them throwing it away now, whilst they're not playing well they are winning games and win enough of them confidence and form will start to grow and with Torres to come back into the team I think they'll end the season in similar fashion to last season albeit without the win at OT ;)

Spurs have done what I defending them of not doing and that's bottling it (again), Villa just aren't that good and City are over that initial new manager period and will start to come unstuck again

I pretty much said the same thing earlier. :p

Things could be very interesting for Liverpool if they get a result against Arsenal on Wednesday. It still shows the evident gap between the top 4 and everyone else, when the likes of Spurs, City and Villa who are all having excellent seasons find themselves on par with a Liverpool who have had their worst season in an absolute age.

It doesn't matter what odds you'd get, you are not going to win any money betting on those teams finishing in that order. :p

For one, Spurs will never finish ahead of Liverpool.

Liverpool and too strong to finish 7th.

Also, I have a sneaky suspicion that Chelsea may win. Obviously, a lot of the final order of the table will depend upon what happens in the Champions League, fatigue, injuries, etc.

If Chelsea go out of all other competitions and are concentrating solely on the Premership, I think they can win it.

What is it about us and Derby? They seem to be a real bogey team for us. <sigh>

We'll have to make sure we take advantage of our game in hand. Can't have the baggies above us for too long.

Panzer

i had a bad feeling about cardiff game, i knew the run wouldnt last for long, ended up been derby the buggers :o

i dont think we should be too worried, west brom have been ahead of us already, just need to pick up the rhythm again. our next 5 fixtures or so should easily be winnable, will have to see though ;)

Cracking game. Vintage Blues! Can't wait for March 28th :D

By vintage you mean blowing a lead in the last 10-15 mins as they have done quite a few times this season :D

Smashing result though, good to see a Cumbrian team do well :D

When did Carlisle last manage to win some silverware, out of curiosity (can't say im an avid fan!)
