English League Football ** spoilers ** [6th - 10th November 2010]

But by god does he make a meal out of it. More importantly though, and I know it's been picked up before, who told Barton the Hitler look was in right now? He looks nearly as bad as his temper.

Shouldn't allow punching in football, should be treated as severely as possible, he's not out with his mates getting drunk and beating people up, he's playing in one of the biggest sporting leagues in the world. You can't just punch people because you feel like it :/

Well that was the most anti climax ever, although I did think we were going nick one at the end, that would have been perfect, watching the Cantona program the other night and the showing of the super slo-mo Scholes last minute goal last season brought a tear to my eye!

That Fabregas tackle was fantastic :/ Karl Henry had of done it there would have been Goon tears all over this forum again :D

Considering all the furore about Huddlestone being dirty, I thought I'd throw this image into the mix:

;)

Henry did make a horrible tackle, but MOTD decided not to show it.

This is as bad, if not worse than Fabregas'

I've watched him for years and I've gotta say he's not that type of player, I think the Prem is too quick for him and he is late sometimes that's all.

People (well some) just need to realise that every team had dirty/nasty tackles against them, Arsenal were and till this day have never been shy about putting nasty tackles in.

Just annoying when that's all you read on this forum is about how Arsenal are hard done by.

Cesc is a truly filthy footballer. Rampaging around putting in reducers every 5 minutes. Stain on Arsenal Football Club. When the opposition see Fabregas they know they'll be lucky to walk of the pitch in one piece

tbf, if Arshavin didn't jump out of the way that's a leg broken, horror challenge. It wasn't even a foul in the eyes of the ref. Then there was another on Song which was about as bad and again, not a foul. Fabregas makes a late challenge it's all over the news and a yellow card. Not exactly even is it?

You know exactly what I mean, these tackles happen, they have done for years!

They just seem to be highlighted a lot more nowadays and more made of them.

Arsenal are just as dirty and always have been, there isn't a team I could name that don't have the odd few dodgy tackles every season.

Maybe the press are jumping on that because Arsenal keep moaning about nasty tackles ;)

Cesc's was a stupid challenge and I'm happy to accept that they happen to players. However, the likes of Cattermole and Henry are doing them near-weekly, whether it's down to intent or they're just too stupid to realise when to dive in and when to stay on their feet isn't really that important, they're becoming really dangerous.

Arshavin jumped straight after about 10 seconds, and looked really determined to score and end the game, best I've seen him play all season! Wenger didn't mention it either, or the Milijas one, however, the Cesc challenge is everywhere?? If you're going to criticise one, you have to criticise the other two, which were worse, otherwise it's a bit unfair, though I doubt the media give a crap!

I agree but with Henry it's only been these last 2 seasons, in the Championship which is far more of a man's league in my eyes, he was a decent tackler and always got the ball.

I really do think the game nowadays is too fast for people, especially CM's who are expected to get the tackles in.

You've quoted my answer so why ask me again?

Yep, the Prem is really quick and the tackling midfielders just need to adapt to that and use their brains a bit more. 9 out of 10 tackles are fine, just need to cool it on the occasional stupid one and nobody would complain

Accidents can happen with tackling sure, but when the same players are making the same kind of horror challenges near enough every week - that's not accidental in my book.

Every team and every player has the potential to make bad challenges, it's the nature of the sport. The fact of the matter is Henry (along with a Cattermole, Shawcross, et al) is a dirty player, who goes in overly hard a lot of the time. What else do these players offer to the team other than "roughing up" the opposition?

Arsenal are no saints though. Wilshere likes to get stuck in and we all saw Fabregas taking out his frustration with a bad challenge last night. But the difference is these players are proper footballers - they actually offer other things to their team (creativity, goalscoring threat, etc.) than just tough tackling and "leaving their mark" on the other team.

Agree.

I don't think that Henry is a "nasty" player per say, I saw him a couple of times in the Championship and he looked comfortable.

I think, him and a lot of other players suffer from a lack of ability and speed at the very top level.

Danny Murphy made this point (which everyone seemed to miss) that a lot of players aren't good enough at the top level and the game is too fast for them. Coupled with the pressure and how pumped up players get before a game, they often lead to bad tackles.

(Probably repeating what G|mp just said but oh well **** it)
