I would be amazed if we don't see a decent bounce after ETH has gone.

The squad is not as bad as the current league position suggests. We've just played like a bunch of strangers 95% of the time, so static everyone has to stop and look and wait to see where the next pass is, it's been painful to watch.

This has been a criticism I have levelled at United for about the past 10 years now. You can see that we play heads up football. Receive ball, pause, look to see where players are, take action. The best teams know where their options are/should be and the very best players aren't even looking up once they get the ball most of the time because they know where their team mates are. They have already looked.

Young unknown players? Really? The club spent a lot of money on these young unknown players.

Antony - £90m or so
Mason Mount - £60 or so
Joshua Zirkzee - £35m
Casemiro £60m
Ugarte - £50m
Matthijs de Ligt £45m
Leny Yoro £60m
Rasmus Hojlund £70m or so
Lisandro Martinez £60 or so

Perhaps unknown is the wrong word, but certainly not high profile names and other than Casemiro who came in and did a job as a known short term fix, i'd have said all the rest were young promising long term signings.

The cost doesn't really change whether they're young developing players or not, it's well accepted United overpaid for pretty much all of them

The only ones that would improve us by any real amount are Diaz and VVD, perhaps Jota. I think the rest of them would probably just end up looking average. Even then Diaz plays in the same position as Garnacho and I wouldn't say hes much of an upgrade on him if at all.

I think Liverpool fans rate their players way higher than most simply because the system makes them look good.

Conversely I think you could put a lot of Uniteds underperforming players into that Liverpool side and they would magically look 10x better.
I mean considering you think only 2 would get in and improve United I could easily throw that argument back at you. Liverpool fans rate their players highly because...they are very good players.

So Jota, Gakpo and Nunez dont start / arent an improvement ahead of Hojlund and Zirkzee? Diaz isnt an improvement on Garnacho? Gravenberch and Mac over Casemiro and Ugarte?

Really?

The difference between the two squads is night and day. Uniteds is poor, blame systems, blame managers etc but they were average when they were signed and they havent improved since. To quote a fan on a United podcast on Hojlund "he isnt a number 9, he's rubbish".

Uniteds squad is crap. If they could afford it they would rip it up completely and start again.

No, he wasn't given the medium term. He was given the short term and he simply managed to stay in place. Nearly all his signings were short term. The pressure on him was for short term success.

I disagree, 2 full seasons and lots of financial backing is more than fair in today's game. You aren't getting 3 full seasons at any supposed top club without showing signs of progression.

Back to Amorim...

Sporting Lisbon are demanding that Manchester United pay another £4million for the release of members of Rúben Amorim’s backroom staff before he can become the new manager at Old Trafford.

This would also waive his notice period. Seems fair enough to me. I'm hoping he can start after the Chelsea game, no reason to wait...

Gakpo and Nunez are average at best in the PL. Hojlund had a good patch last season before getting injured and hes playing with wingers whose first, second and third thought is to shoot. Jota wouldn't get any service in the United team and shockingly probably wouldn't score many as a result. Diaz isn't markedly better than Garnacho if at all. Hes more of a team player so from that point of view he would help Hojlund score more.

Neither Gravenberch or MacAllister would do that much to our midfield of Mainoo and Ugarte. Ugarte has barely started at the club and after a poor-ish start had a couple of good games before, as EtH liked to do, being dropped.

I would love it if Antony suddenly becomes Phil Foden level of output.

The only ways thats happening is if Foden gets a long term injury or Pep benches him.

Yes, can't argue with that.

I would think this will also mean RvN would be out the door.

Going to be interesting to see who he favours in the squad over others and if he will give the likes of Antony another shot or not!
He’ll probably walk in the door and see Antony and be like…
