erm... I think they've kicked me out of uni

It shocks me you are on here and not infront of your tutor explaining your situation... 20% attendance meant you obviously went to something, why didn't you raise the timetable issue then?

One question springs to mind, How is everyone else finding there way to lectures?

You need to buddy up with someone/a group of someone's that are in some of your lectures and see what they do.

As for this missing HDD, Reply ASAP telling him you have no idea what he is talking about.

Stop worrying about it my friend and find a solution!

Interestingly enough one of the first things we did in Freshers Week was a session in the department where we were studying in which you got introduced to the lecturers and had to print off your timetable. It was also an ideal opportunity to meet other people on your course...

It's not the "understanding" of the timetable, the timetables are just plain incorrect. When went to the designated class at the designated time, the tutor said I'm not on the register and told me to go away.

It was a big guy with a ponytail, so I just left.

Crap dude, are you OK? Sounds scarrrry!!

If you are a first year then having a low attendance at this point in the year won't have led you to being kicked out, but stealing stuff probably will do so.

- You say the timetable's are only available online, so get print outs of them and if they don't add up then take those print outs to your tutor and insist he/she helps you with them.

- The lecture you went to and were told you were not registered for it. Was it the correct lecture (given the timetable issues)? Did you actually confirm this, not necessarily with the lecturer but you could have asked someone else attending the class. Did you go to the appropriate faculty office and find out why you did not appear to be registered for that particular lecture series ... not a general "I don't seem to be registered?", a specific "Lecturer X has told me I am not registered for Class Y, please can you check this".

- Did you actually even go through the registration process for the course, not the acceptance of the place through UCAS (or whatever ... it's been a while since I was an University) ... but the actual registration at the University at the start of term?

- Regarding the stolen hard disk? First simple question is, of course, did you do it? If not, have you been in the room which it was stolen from? have you used the machines in the room in question and could have left yourself logged in (and hence appeared that you were present when it was stolen)? Could someone have seen your username and password and hence have been logged in as you in the room at that time? That room doesn't have a swipe card entry system does it and you've lost your card? What were you doing at that time and can you prove that?

It's Uni, not school. You have to take some responsibility. You should have contacted the lecturers and asked when the lectures were.

Failing that you should have gone straight to you advisor.

Uni's are normally super lenient, so if you have managed to chaff them off so much they are booting you, chances are you deserved it I'm afraid.

Sounds like you are making excuses... How long has this went on.. weeks/months.
2hours spent chasing your tail between offices would have solved the 3 timetables thing. Good luck on the dole.

This chap is being extremely coy about what actually happened. I suspect he stole the HDD and that he has behaved in an extremely arrogant manner towards the office staff. I cannot believe that you can't ask someone on your course about the timetable situation. I am not the most confident person going but even I would have done so. We really need you to clarify the HDD situation since you seem to be dodging any questions asked about it. There must be some reason that they are accusing you of stealing it, did they lend you one? It's unlikely that this would just come out of the blue.

Are you driving that Audi RS4 to Uni and back?

Probably his dad's, plus, freshers have no parking as far as I'm aware, unless daddy bought something for him.

Either than, or your comment has just opened up a can of worms :D

You don't seem very forth right towards Uni.

They won't hold your hand here for you.

Get talking to your advisors and the lecturer who e-mailed you, it may be that someone has put false blame on you. We don't know for sure but get talking with him!

Ok, this seems completely cockeyed. Set this up into steps and sort the problems out one by one. Seriously uni sounds like an opportunity to break from your previous life yet you're going to **** it away? With the government changes uni places will not be as easy to get.

1. There is an accusation you've stolen.
1a) you did steal it. Return it and face the reality. The only way perhaps to return and not get shafted is to apologise and say you made a bad decision under the influence of drugs. You will then need to make a full on effort, however Uni expect that as an adult you are able to make your own decisions rationally.

1b) you didn't steal it - state you're innocent, ask them for proof or they drop the accusation with a written statement from the University on university headed paper. If they don't and will not provide evidence get a legal eagle to send them a letter with the statement you are innocent of the accusation, the university has refused to provide proof and that you have not received a written formal apology.

As per the other comments - go to the student union, discuss with one of the advisors they have (usually an older student) who can help you. Missing freshers week isn't a good idea, you'll have missed to golden opportunity.

I'm trying to be surprised, schocked, astounded and amazed that this is happening to you - you of all the reliable, upstanding people on this forum!

I'm failing.

I've replied to the email, and I'm just gonna go in tomorrow like normal. Luckily I've saved my timetable (at least the correct parts of it) on my phone beforehand.

How do you know what parts are correct? Surely if there's a few different versions going about you could go to all listed classes until you find out which ones are necessary for your course? It's only likely to be for a few weeks.

I dunno how someone can be kicked out of Uni in their first year and also barely when the term started.

There was a guy at my halls who managed to smash up all the windows in his stairwell with his fists (mesh-reinforced windows at that) amongst other damage, had to be carted away in an ambulance because of blood loss and the police were called to ensure that everyone was safe. And aside from a stern telling off he was allowed to continue at university, they did however move him to another flat so if you're kicked out of university after less than a month then you've really gone above and beyond the call of duty. It doesn't seem all that easy to do and attendance is almost only ever something that is worried about several months into the year.

Which uni is it?

I'm a bit curious about this too.
