erm... I think they've kicked me out of uni

it's not hand holding, it's that the course costs money, if they don't think you're putting in the effort you get a warning, then you get throw out so they don't have to waste time on you.

Money that the students are paying £3200 for. Until next year when it will be £12000 :p

I really cant believe the OP's dilema after only going to uni for a few weeks :S. You really need to get your backside in gear and take a lot of the advice which has already been given in this thread.

Priority should be to sort out the HDD situation and get your timetable sorted out.

Did in.

I'm not one for picking up on things like that but I find is funny all the same when it's somebody soo critical of others. ;)

Was typing on my iPhone. Spotted it afterwards, but couldn't be arsed correcting it. Thought I'd let someone have the glory of getting one up on me. ;)

a lot of the since courses (especially specialised ones) don't make a profit from first years fees, they hope that in your later years/phd you invent or research something that makes them money but you probably won't.

If you where a company training staff would you continue training them at a cost if they weren't putting the effort in?

I did not know that. I'm in the computer science department year 3/4 and they don't rely on my to produce something that they can make a profit from. I never thought about microbiology or anything like that.

Asim this thread fails dude, even i managed to navigate my way through university with 3 good friends and im a complete numpty and they are even worse.

In your first official week you will be told to meet in a given room at a given time, here you would have been given timetables and basic course information from the course leader and faculty leader. The timetables are on the intranet and outside the faculty office in most universities so it's not exactly hard to find out where and when your lectures are.

As for the HDD go and ask them for proof that you stole it, most IT suites have their workstations locked or caged in (they are here at staffs uni) so it's almost impossible to steal them without carrying tools.

Do you not do a final year project? The university have rights to everything you make, this means they have 100's on projects on the go from computing students, there must be one or two gems in there they can make profit from.

This story is stupid, really want to know the university he is talking about, probably that hole Greenwich university. But at my university (Brookes) timetables system is old but works flawlessly, and there is only one place online you can retrieve your timetable. You can also even go to the office and ask them to print you one off, they won't be helping with anything though, that why you have a personal tutor / academic adviser my uni likes calling them now :D

Surely part of being a university student is the ability to sort out problems like these, not rely on others!!!!

You would think so wouldn't you.

However I don't think Asim is your typical student, it seems that he's lucky if he remembers to get dressed in morning, let alone know where he is supposed to be.

Come on, he's frightened of pony tails......
