Essential Android Apps

I dunno, the s2 will be like going from a push bike to a veyron so I don't think a model up will make much difference tbh...

If it's released before I'm due to upgrade I'll definitely consider it but I honestly don't want to keep this ******** phone any more than I have to!

Always be dubious of battery saving apps, but I've been using BatteryXL for the past couple of days and it's pretty good. It doesn't use location based settings but I'm not a fan of them anyway. Got it set up to turn off certain radios/settings off when the screen goes off, and to toggle wifi/data every so often. Also set it to turn wifi off automatically if it doesn't connect to anything within 1 minute. Loads of different profiles to use. Nice UI as well :)

I know you can do all of that with Tasker, but I couldn't be bothered to set it up again :p

Been trying to use BatteryXL, but it seems to not work for me. I mean no matter what I try I can't get it to keep wifi and data on when I turn off the screen, it always disconnects them.

With the settings in screen below, data and wifi turn off when screen is off

I only want sync and gps to turn off when screen is off, which it should do with those settings.

I think this is an ICS issue. Mine will never keep it's connection alive when the screen goes off. Rather annoying tbh...

couple of question guys if you dont mind

what app works well with foobar and syncing my music?

is there a grooveshark app for streaming music on the go?

can i log my call activity and sms ? to say google calender or my email box.

what a good email client ? is k9 the best out there atm

also i use ip cam viewer , is there anything better for free with audio enabled

Cerberus automatically enables GPS if it is off when you try to localize your device (only on Android < 2.3.3

That's the deal breaker for me. I want to know that if a chav nicks my phone that they won't be able to turn GPS off so I can't track them!

Samsung's free Dive service allows most of the features Cerberus has but it turns GPS back on if it's turned off which is why I'm more inclined to use a Samsung based ROM!

Roll on ICS :p

More features for rooted devices: complete uninstall protection (a thief will be able to delete Cerberus only by flashing another ROM), GPS auto-enabling even on Android > 2.3.3.

;)

i thought prey was the leading app for this. has cerberus superseeded it ?

what is the differences

There is definitely an app that records calls on a pre-set Google Calender, but I don't recall it's name.

Gmail is the best mail client. Set it up to check your Pop3/IMAP accounts. Your battery will thank you.

I have tinyCam Monitor Pro, which I think has sound capabilities.

I had Prey and swapped it for Cerberus as it can do so much more. You can even have it as a hidden install so it won't show up in the app drawer and, as has been mentioned, having it on a rooted phone = the best app protection you can get i.e. it cannot be uninstalled without flashing a new ROM.

Trying out the Cerberus trial and it is very very feature rich, way more than Prey/Where's My Droid etc and it's so simple to use as well, especially the text activation commands of which there are many!

I've bought a license now and it's pretty cheap at just over £2 for life.

Uninstalling WMD and discarding Samsung Dive now :p

It's also nice that you can add multiple devices to your account without having to buy a new license, could add family member's phones to my account and manage it all through there.
