Essential Android Apps

What's the general consensus on media streaming apps? I'd like to be able to browse the files that are on my desktop from the phone, then stream them over in decent quality.

I've tried VLC's streaming app, it works nicely but the quality is pretty low. Any recommendations before I scour the google?

Streaming 720p work perfectly, looks brilliant on the S3. 1080p seems to stutter on the more complex scenes, probably my wireless though as the phone plays the files perfectly when stored locally :(/

My advice is to try other players too, like Dice Player, Mobo and all the others. The reason being, is that some players just work better on certain phones than others, for instance Dice Player on the only one that can produce stutter free 1080p on my Nexus Galaxy, but Mobo works perfectly on my little 7" Tab.

Can Dice stream it over my home network, from my desktop though?

Yeah you can add network drives. Thats how I watch stuff, never played anything from the actual phone itself.

Some apps do not allow this, but I found a program called Bubble UPnP very good for this, it'll then allow you to play on an external player like Mobo etc.
 
What weather widgets are people using for their tablet? Looking for something with a forecast which is large or scalable. I'm currently using Beautiful widgets but it's pretty small.
