European Grand Prix 2010, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 9/19

Hehehe.

The final "upside-down" shunt he had would've made him dizzy. After the car came to a halt, I think he saw him put his head back...perhaps because he was dizzy. I'm surprised he didnt suffer concussion as that was a heavy shunt.

I'm glad he was ok though, becase I honestly thought he would end up in hospital or the morgue after that.

The truth of the matter is that Webber should've had the skill to judge the slow speed of the car in front of him. Instead, he milked every last drop of the slipstream and couldnt get out of it in time. He didnt even need to slipstream Heikki like that. I mean for gods sake, the Lotus is a joke of a car and Webber could've driven by him with very little effort.

Oh and BTW, how did Webber even get into the position where he was actually fighting for position with a Lotus?

From the link posted above.

"Here’s how the two cars’ top speeds compared in qualifying at the race:"

Driver Car Top speed (kph)

Jarno Trulli ...Lotus-Cosworth 309.5
Heikki Kovalainen ...Lotus-Cosworth 308.1
Sebastian Vettel.. Red Bull-Renault 307.7
Mark Webber ..Red Bull-Renault 307.3

Oh dear

That just makes Webber's crash look even more dodgy.

The srange thing is that in all the press comments, I have never once seen someone come out and say that they feel sorry for Heikki as his race was ruined by Webber's poor driving.

Meh, that's just because the Red Bull Press Office Of Spooky Doom™ has told them to go with their line or suffer a fate worse than death....;)

They got to CS||nuTs, and they'll get to the rest of us in their own time. Run for the hills!

LOL deuse, nice one. I hadn't spotted that. So much for the Lotus being a joke of a car....:)

How did Webber end up behind a Lotus anyway?

During the race, all I saw was that Webber was gradually moving backwards, while Vettel was opening up a gap at the front. Then mid race, we were shown Webber taking flight.

Webber ended up behind a Lotus thanks to pitting very early on, before the field got strung out. He was going backwards thanks to getting the start all kinds of wrong, and they needed to change strategy to try and claw some positions back. Unfortunately, the last person on the grid that you want to see trying to charge back up the order when things have gone horribly wrong is Webber, since he runs into stuff. We saw that one in Australia, but with the higher speeds involved this time it ended up a bit nastier.

And it should have worked well for him, if he wasn't so stupid.

Pitted early to get free air and bang the laps in, we saw how well that worked with kobyashi.

Why oh why was he so aggresive with a lotus, just no need.

The question you should be asking is "why was he so aggressive?". Forget the fact that it was a Lotus in front - it could have been Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren and the collision would still have happened. After all, it did in Melbourne....

Webber isn't good in these situations where he finds himself down the order in a car that ought to be right at the front. I don't get why, since he has enough experience of keeping out of trouble when all around are losing their **** (Aus '02, anyone?*). It's massively irritating, since it ruins not just his own race but that of others as well.

* - He lined up on the grid in the Minardi. Rubens and Ralf had a crash at T1 that snowballed and took out much of the field. Further incidents in the race put him into the points, with his car falling to bits around him. He survived a late challenge from Salo and came home 5th. He can perform under adversity, he just seems to have forgotten how.

Gone but not forgotten! We shall resurrect him! Grab the torx screws!

My old man made his point quite clear, in times gone by in motorsport, it has always been the driver's responsibility following not to crash into the car in front. I agree with him.
