European Grand Prix 2010, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 9/19

Anyone got/seen any photos of Hulkenberg's car? When he was told to stop by a Fire Marshal it looked to me like the rear left tyre had worn through and that some bodywork was missing!

<Insert comment about if F1 were in HD....>

I never figured out if the bodywork was damaged because of the tyre failing or if the tyre failed because the exhaust exploded

It looked like somthing failed under the bodywork juding by the damage on it. There was also a fair bit of debris further up the track. Shame we didnt get a decent replay. Been awhile since we had a decent engine related failure with bits going everywhere.

You mean 2010 world champion elect - Sebastian Vettel?

:p

Uh, Vettel isn't quite 2010 champion-elect just yet - he hasn't even headed up the title hunt this season. If anything, it's Hamilton who looks to be good for coming out on top in the championship battle right now.

If Vettel goes on a mid-season rampage like Alonso managed in 2006, then you can start calling him the champion-elect.

I'd love to see the onboard from Sutil a couple of races ago when he mugged about 3 or 4 off the line then a few more after the first few corners!

Vettel for the championship!!!

:D

Maybe. But Hamilton, Button, Webber, Alonso et al are still in the hunt right now. Writing anyone off at this stage is....well, extremely premature.

Sure, we can safely say that Bruno Senna is not going to win the 2010 World Championship (actually, we can't on this points system....but I digress). But I still wouldn't want to pick an outright winner at the moment, given that there are ten races still to go (including one on a modified track and one on a brand new track).

Yeah, I know.

My personal take is that Alonso and Hamilton will finish top 2, but it's difficult to argue again Hamilton winning the title as he is driving very well this season. He has definitely improved.

I just like hailing Vettel, as for whatever reason, he is now the most hated driver in F1, on this forum. This is in stark contrast to forum opinion, earlier this season.

In all serousness though, Vettel, has the best car and if conditions remain dry and Webber is told to back off for the remainder of the season (which I beleive he now has), there is no reason why Vettel couldnt win 70% of the remaining races and become WDC.

RBR have the best car and a decent driver pairing.
McLaren have the best driver pairing and a decent car.

At present, the better driver pairing is beating the best car.

Had Vettel not had the crash in Turkey and Webber had been told to move aside, Vettel would be leading the title race by now. Note: the Turkey incident had nothing to do with poor reliability. From here on in though, Webber knows his place, so the Turkish incident shouldnt be repeated.

Vettel has a good chance of winning the title from here on in, providing we don't get too much rain and Webber obeys team orders.

I'd agree with AcidHell2, RBR is the fastest but not the best. Silverstone will decide is McLaren have a decent chance or not, it all depends on the new exhaust.

If you think webber knows his place and will pull over, you are mistaken.

if everyone pulls over shure anyone can win.

You also have to look at how things went last season. McLaren have a great track record of development through the season and I wouldn't be suprised if they are at least as fast as RBR by the last quarter. Not capitalising on their early supremacy will be very costly IMO.

Plus I just don't rate Vettel that highly. He's fast from the front but not able to make something out of nothing in the way that Hamilton/Button/Alonso are, and that's a skill that's crucial in closely contested seasons.

Webber is a professional at the end of the day. He has been in F1 for long enough. I liken him to Coulthard, who in the past, did move over for Hakkinen.

At the end of the day, he is an employee of RBR and as such will take orders from his bosses - just like in any organisation. If he refuses, his employment with RBR could be terminated...just like in any organisation.

It is no secret that RBR believe Vettel is the future of their team and as such will do everything in their power to ensure Vettel is the guy who wins for them. The same thing happened with MS/Ferrari. The same thing happened with Prost/Williams. The same thing happened with Hakkinen/McLaren.

Team orders exist and preference is given to the lead driver. This is a fact.

except it is not so clear cut.

It is fact but team orders are illegal and so can not move over like they did in the old days, there is no basis for contract termination and there is no chance webber will move over.
