European Grand Prix 2011, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 8/19

Hamilton on Qualifying

Autosport said:
"I think if you look at the previous races, every time in Q3 it looks like they [RB] have done something with their engine mode which has given them the slight upper hand.

"And in the last race, while other people brought a new DRS, Ferrari had a new mode in Q3 which helped them significantly.

"We have had the same mode for a while now and everyone will probably not be using their qualifying modes because their engines would not last, they will use their race mode - and we generally have good race pace so I am hoping that it enables us to be a bit closer in qualifying. Fingers crossed it works for this race."

I don't think that Button or the mistake will worry him.
What would worry RBR and Vettel is the fact that Ferrari (at Monaco) and McLaren (at Canada) hunted him down. The RBR car no longer appears to be the dominant (race) car. The few things that RBR have going for them is their ability to innovate, Vettel's fantastic form and Vettel's big lead.

The main thing they have going for them is their quali advantage. If the FIA manage to take that away then they are in serious trouble.

the trouble is that one of those races vettel was on very old tyres and the other was a bit exeptional with the conditions and the saftey cars, and they are supposedly the two worst tracks of the season for RBR. so its still a little unclear if they have lost as much pace as it seems

Martin Brundle on Twitter

“David Coulthard and me just badly lost a pit stop competition against Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. Painful. I asked for a stewards enquiry, Lewis said he knew the way there.”

Raised a chuckle from me :D

CH confirmed Red Bull will be using the Silverstone spec rules in either P1 or P2. Not surprising and expect quite a few teams will do this.

Missed the first 30 mins but i'm now settled into the sofa with my PS3 controller. Will be switching between games and F1 today hehe. Real shame Karuns car broke again but hopefully he'll be covering FP2 on 5 live.

Vettel well down the time sheets (16th) at the moment. I'd love to see exactly what's different between him and Webbers (1st) cars.

Yeah I heard Hamilton say over the radio that his wing wasn't working only for the engineer to come over and say "yes lewis, aero testing so no wing" as if to say "duhh, we covered this" lol.

Glad to hear Perez is feeling better.
