European Grand Prix 2011, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 8/19

McLaren don't have much to lose anymore, they may aswell take the gamble.

They should at least take the gamble on one car IMO. At least in practise. Stick the updates on Friday fp1 and do a one hour stint and see what happens may eaves pit stops to change some settings

you say this but if and when in the past hamilton goes for the win and bins it everyone is in uproar saying why cant he learn to sit tight and bag the points.
That is regarding Hamiltons driving style, I was more referring to updates they have that they did not use beacause of reliability concerns which IMO they should have used and not take the safe way knowing they would most likley be slower than Red Bull and Ferrari.

i think mclaren new hamilton needed a finish in the points, if he took the upgrades and had to retire he would get more and more desperate to get a result and it could spiral out of control.

they could have taken the gamble on buttons car though as he just came of a great result but i think hamilton gets the upgrades first when they come.

Go Kobayashi!

I assume this includes overtakes of people while they were in the pit as well as on track overtakes, as I can't remember Vettel making a single on track pass so far this season?

Yep, looking here (the Lap Charts are great!) it appears Vettel has not overtaken a single person on track since Lap 1 of the Brazilian GP 2010 (And even that was Nico Hulkenburg). 569 racing laps without a racing overtake.

He over took 2 in one lap in one of this years races. He came out of the pits on fresh tires and caught a couple of cars. I think it might have been china.

That isn't exactly a competitive, racing overtake though.
It was like taking candy from a child, but technically you are right. Those stats state that he overtook 8 people - a majority of those overtakes would have been after he came out of the pits on much better tyres.

When was this? Looking at the lap chart it looks like he overtook 5 people and made up 5 places on his fresh tyres after his first stop. I assume therefore the overtakes were on the other guys in laps.

Still, not a racing overtake.

Wow 8 overtakes for position in 7 races for the leader of the championship.

He really could be crowned champion having made the least overtakes for position of any champion ever.

How many did Schumacher do in the 2002?
