European Grand Prix 2011, Valencia Street Circuit - Race 8/19

OK here is food for thought.

Do we think that Vettel is likely to break any of MSc's records?

He'll certainly break some, whether he'll get 8 WDC I don't know. While he is still young it would still mean being in the dominant car very often which I would hope wont happen like it did when MSc was in his pomp.

I reckon we could easily see Hamilton & Vettel trading blows over the next decade though so long as they both have fast cars every year. Possibly Di Resta too if he gets a better car and continues to drive well.

Once Webber, Alonso and Button retire though I'm not sure I see anyone else currently on the grid having what it takes to challenge those two/three. Though I have a nagging feeling about Perez but I don't know why. I've not watched any of his other races and he's not done much yet so I have no idea where I'm getting it from.

Which they also lose if Ferrari is faster and gets more points.

I just think that being overly safe isn't going to bring them much, even when they took the safe way it still meant Button lost Kers

well that was to do with heat on the day - nothing really they could do about that surely?

they could have taken the gamble on buttons car though as he just came of a great result but i think hamilton gets the upgrades first when they come.

Take a gamble on the guy leading the championship (from a team poiint of view) - by quite a way......thats a bizare gamble imo

Its also true (taking KERS into account) that JB has been faster than Lewis for the last three races......

All of them.

could have said the same about Alonso and Hammi...

who was designing Schumis cars.

Rory Byrne

it's always a combination of things, in the distant past it has been the case that a team came good mid season.

Although leave it too long and it's all over.

Maybe wins in a season, he won't get near the others if Ferrari and Lewis get their act together. Hard to say I suppose because we don't know who or where people will end up.

Alonso won two on the trot then has had to fight every step of the way for a decent car. MS won two and then had a barren spell of titles.

I dont see him getting 7 world titles.

I think Vettel will break the record of victories in a season. With the exception of accidents I cannot see him off the podium this season, and not often off first.

Most fastest laps in a season is 10 (Kimi x2 and Schumacher)
Most pole positions is 14 (Mansell)
Most wins is 13 (from 18, so 72%) (Schumacher)

I'd say all 3 of those are up for grabs by Seb this year. Its also the 'hat-trick' he is rumoured to enjoy getting at races.

Reading through posts here I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Vettel is only doing so well because of the car. Yes he is a great driver, but that Red Bull car is just awesome!

I thought the race was very dull, I actually ending up dozing off towards the end of it! (a sin, I know!).

He seems have grown out of that this year with only one fastest lap, I think he's realised this year it means nothing. Better to conserve the tyres and win the race. Last race I think was his only fastest lap. Instead he's being smart and maintaining the gap and the tyres.

So number of fastest laps isn't up for grabs by him, wins could be. Poles too depending on what happens at silverstone.

The RBR car is good. No question about that.

But, the best (and probably only) way to see how well a driver is driving is to compare him directly to his team mate. I believe Vettel is the driver who is dominating his team-mate more than any other.

I think Alonso is also on par with Vettel, in this area.

This year, Vettel has been phenomenal. When his competitors are talking about throwing in the towel before half the season is complete, you know that Vettel is on top of his game.

In his current form, I rate him right alongside Alonso and Hamilton.

It's not just the car, otherwise Webber would have the same amount of points.

I think it's a combination of the fastest car, talent and a car design/setup that is tailored to him.

But you can't directly compare team mates, because as has been seen before (Schumi/Rubens, last years RB front wing), teams do not always support both drivers equally.

How much would that cost him as he's signed a deal to stay until the end of 2014.

Not just that, but what are the options available to him? It of course would depend on the team, but things seem pretty restricted at the moment. Plus, RB seems built around him, not sure he would want to leave!

Based on how equal Vettel and Webber were last year in comparison to this, it would be a safe assumption that Webber is not receving the same level of support this year.

I would beg to differ. We all know that Webber would be making it very clear if he wasn't getting the same support as Vettel (Silverstone last year, anyone?). Yes, they were close last year, but this year Vettel has stepped his game up. In their current form, Vettel and Webber are in totally different leagues.

I would agree rb sure don't want them racing invade they come together again.

It's amazing how many problems webbers car gets to Vettels.
