EV general discussion

I never really monitored it in the Polestar 2, but I don't think I would have ever seen those sort of numbers.

It was the least efficient model though to be fair - The launch edition Dual Motor with no heat pump and Performance upgrade.

MY24 might be able to manage 3.5mi/kWh
Did you used to get circa 180mi during summer, or was that my lead foot?

Can you not granny charge at home?
No drive unfortunately, maybe granny charge at parents over 24 hours at the weekend (walkable distance) or sister's (soon) home charger for 4ish hours.

Telsa is really good at showing the way, they have more flexible charging costs which is how it should be, peak vs off peak. Even if I use their CCS rapid for the year I think it'll cost me £700, nearly half the cost less :) of what petrol was for me.

150 miles a week / 4ish miles per kw, I need roughly 37 kw charger per week, 150 kw per month x 39p + £11 Tesla membership = 600 miles / £68 per month for commute, so maybe £824 a year, and no road tax (they will change that one day).

Tesla also have some chargers-for-non-Tesla available in Cornwall where I visit family, right around the 200 mile mark so that is also sorted for a trip down there.

I reset the trip before setting off home yesterday and was getting 3.9 miles per kw first then 4 then 4.1.. looking good! That's before I've worked how to drive correctly using regen.

Damn, that's brave. Will be intersting to see how you get on.

Are there no kerbside solutions you could look at. Another poster on here had a conduit installed in the path to allow him to safely charge from a flat (I think it was).

You have some understanding family :p Have a look at the various subscription services, ionity etc, that can give you some discounted prices at fast chargers.

Heh thanks, I think it's just a mind set change, I never really enjoyed the petrol pump experience tbh! The last (ever) one was maybe the worse ever, pay at pump wasn't working and it took many attempts over the tannoy to get working and had to pay inside anyway.

Kona has 64kw battery, 250 miles real world (plus/minus summer/winter), that's plenty for me.

Yeah I'll take a look into that thanks, not sure, my council is struggling so I'm just lucky to get my bins collected tbh.

That sounds like a real drama compared to running an EV without the ability to charge at home. I hear that chargers always work first time, 100% of the time... Oh wait. ;)

Jokes aside I think you've probably just signed yourself up to a very expensive and highly inconvenient way of motoring.

Octopus have just offered me polestar 2 with free at home charging for the length of the lease.

Thats just nuts.

So £550-650 net for insurance, maintenance, fuel, tire, charger install and braked down.

Is there a mileage limit ?

I think 10,000 miles however this will still be the equivalent of £40-60 off my expenses each month.

I’m guessing I will require about 3000 miles of public charging a years so the difference will be tiny.

This works on intelligent and GO, so more flexible with chargers.

Although in the price they will install a Zappi that can do solar divert. So will probably sell my point.

Edit
So some quick maths, so my running costs on 15k a year will be £45 for home charging a whatever I use at public rapids say about £300.

Sounds like salary sacrifice as they said ‘net’ and includes insurance etc.
I guess it's moot for me anyway. I got the ipace start of June last year and then after having our other car written off we got the i3 start of December.
all being well we keep our cars for a long time so I am sure the landscape will be unrecognisable in the 10 years I hope to keep our 2 cars for now.

Keep telling your self that, you’ll get the itch for something new soon enough :D
lol I dunno I generally get good use off my cars.

we kept our 2012.nissan QQ 8.5 years... ok not 10 years but it was the wife who talked me into getting rid. she always hated it.
our 2011 pug 308 we had had for 9 years and had no intention of getting rid yet before some berk wrote it off.

my 350z I only had for maybe 5 years but I had to get rid of that due to a child.... and my yellow peril fiat coupe , another car I had no intention of getting rid off but I crashed it.

unless something goes wrong with them I think (hope) both our current cars are nice enough to not need to get rid off............ unless I get some serious money and can afford one of the new lotus EVs if the ass falls out of their prices in 3 years time once the 1st batch come off lease..... but I am not seriously planning on that.

that is bonkers. can anyone get that or is it specific to some people.

It’s via a work salary sacrifice scheme. Octopus have some kind of partnership with Polestar and have lots of pre allocated stock ready for almost immediate delivery.

There is something funny currently in the portal as 1/2 the cars are missing so can’t check prices.

However a AWD long range with plus and pilot with a premium paint was about 640 when I looked (40% tax payer).

I only was offered this (charging deal) as I’m close to placing an order and wanted to speak to somebody so had about a 45 minute chat.

It’s was obvious they really really want to sell you a polestar 2. I would also guess they can do the charging for free as they hedging on balancing the grid so will probably be paid to use most of the energy.

Test drive next Friday so if they can cut me a deal like this I might be swayed. However the model 3 is still in the lead but it’s close.

Is that otherwise known as Polestar have a bunch of stock they want/need to shift ASAP and Octopus responded with 'hold my beer'.

I expect the PS2 is coming out a fair bit cheaper than a Model 3 long range? If so, I'd probably get the Polestar, long range RWD with pilot and plus packs.

Doesn't the hatch on the polestar win out on a practicality basis -
but, thought polestar was suffering on uk sales so they need to remain quorate in the UK, with octopus deals.
octopus seem to advertise genesis too - has vincent pronounced on which is the better drive - maybe he'll pick his old 5 series.
