Given all the rumblings about Brexit strategy after the GE, this was quite interesting:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jun/14/perks-end-uk-eu-guy-verhofstadt

Surely such a position just encourages pushing on with the existing plan? I can't see there being any enthusiasm for effectively paying the EU more to remain a member?
I knew they'd do something like that lol - I've noticed this is what you have to watch out for with EU politicians, they say one thing "Britain would be welcome to stay in the EU" and don't say another "oh but you'll have to pay us even more £billions more". Oh well, anything that makes it more difficult to backslide on UK Independence can only be a good thing.

Wrong, it was accepted by everyone, and ratified by 18 of the 25 member states. It wasn't implemented, because 100% ratification was required.

Wrong, the Lisbon Treaty did not make the same changes.

Correct.

Wrong. Aren't you grateful that the Lisbon Treaty introduced a formal, legal process for leaving the EU?
It wasn't ratified ergo it was rejected your playing silly semantics there but at least we both agree it wasn't ever put in place.

The Lisbon treaty makes many similar changes and others it was instigated as a reaction to the rejection of the constitution. It isn't the constitution but it achieves many of the same things through treaty change rather than creating a constitution.

I'm actually pro Europe so disappointed the Lisbon treaty makes leaving the EU so simple I just don't like politicians lying and weasling there way out of stuff

You are aware we're most likely going to have to pay to leave right.

i'm still aggrieved over the result last year and this election has frankly made it worse with TM effectively ignoring the result and we have this god awful coalition being created, i really feel the UK is heading straight into a car crash and Ireland will be ablaze again, we will be paying for this many many years to come.

Depends how good our lot are at going over the books and trying to offset assets or commitments to the UK against any departure bill. I think it's been quite obvious for a while that the EU will do their best to punish us. The question with any bill is what legs it has in the legal sense.

I suppose not getting a gesture of, "hey if you really want, forget it happened and we can carry on as before" shows the mood on the continent. We've always been crap Europeans IMO and like Hannan says, would probably make better neighbours than tenants.

Man, am I glad I made plans to emigrate following the brexit vote. Whilst I think the opinion that the UK will become one of the worlds first 'first world failed states' is a little off, it definitely feels like we're on the verge of quite a steep decline in many respects.

Verge?

Uhh, sure, not as though we havent had negative wage growth for years along with the likes of Greece.

I'm abit late here but I just looked a little further into the votes in Scotland.

Many of the Wins for conservatives looks similar to this: This is the result in the Gordon Constituency

Conservative - 21,861
Scottish National Party - 19,254
Labour - 6,340

May was extremely lucky that the left wing parties had their vote split...
I would hazard a guess that for many Labour Voters their second choice would have been SNP and vice verca. Instead they have a rightwing MP.

What exactly is this punishment? Actually paying our way?

We have Theresa May as PM. Think about it.

Can't we just put all the idiots in one place, let them govern themselves, and the rest of us, with our heads screwed on can stay in the EU, get Corbyn in - and get some humanity back into society.

I have no problem with you and the rest of the MINORITY finding somewhere else to live.
Democracy seems to mean nothing to a minority of people in our society. LOSE a referendum, LOSE an election and still complain it's not fair and we must overturn the will of the people?
You are, in essence, calling for abolition of democracy.

But really?

Indeed nearly all the Con's wins in Scotland look like the above, I suspect at the next election that trick is unlikely to work.
