So your issue isn't about the government about having the data but about the security of that data?

not exclusively, its just one of the many arguments for it being a really stupid idea.

for a start, you may not have anything to hide now- you're plainly in the conservatives good books, but future governments will then be able to pass a few laws on the sly outlawing common practice (in the case of this example lets say torrent downloading being given jail time), then boom they already have the evidence to put away whoever they feel like on a whim.

Unless, as it becomes increasingly obvious just what people going to have to sacrifice as May continues to push for a hard Brexit, we end up having a second referendum ;).

So far 53% of people in the latest poll now favour a second referendum and that's likely to continue to rise, especially if things continue to to look bleaker and bleaker. Don't be surprised if the harder the Brexit deal looks the greater the proportion of people wanting a second referendum becomes.

It's up to May and the Conservatives now to try and pacify those hard leavers as much as possible while changing little. If they don't Brexit may never happen.

Which poll?

What do you put online that has worth and is at risk from Theresa May?

There's nothing in my bank accounts that I feel the need to hide from the government.

Are you happy for your parents, loved ones and neighbours to know every site you look at online? The politically dodgy (but legal) websites, "adult" material you view, cuddly toy fetish you may have etc etc.

Make a big list and it almost certainly will be leaked at some point or other. If May gets her way you will have to assume anything you do online will be at some point viewable by all those you know.

isn't outlawing porn on the conservative agenda somewhere? for the sake of the children don'tyaknow

Instead it will just benefit those in the 'hated' northern Ireland. What's in it for me! Sigh....

The reason that Northern Ireland's politics has become so polarised is because of Brexit. English voters like yourself voted for Brexit without giving a damn about Northern Ireland and the peace process. People in Northern Ireland switched their votes to hardliners because they believed that parties like DUP and Sinn Fein would fight hardest against Brexit.

I know that we're not supposed to mention Brexit in this thread but the current political malaise in Northern Ireland is a result of Brexit and the massive uncertainty it's caused. Most people in Northern Ireland know that the DUP are nutty but thought that voting for them was the only way to stop Brexit from ruining their country. They've done pretty well so far!

Or net contributor...
Or thinks they are, like the rest of the Daily Mail readership. Who then explain away to themselves their particular exception. And there always is one. They'll be claiming some benefit, or dodging some tax, or on some other swizz that they've justified to themselves isn't the same as the fantasy immigrant the Daily Mail tells them they can blame instead.

I take the view that anything online could be made public anyway regardless of government involvement.

The DUP are pro Brexit aren't they? We shouldn't be trapped in the EU just because of the political situation in a small part of the union.

I'd say more importantly, should any government hold this level of aggregate behaviour data, even more so one that has potentially already broken electoral laws on targeting swing voters?

Child benefit and childcare vouchers don't make a great difference lol.

the difference isn't in terms of the actual difficulty of finding out, your safety at the minute is being just a face in the crowd, not important enough to warrant the effort of stealing from.

but what the government proposes is to gather up the entire crowd and put it in one place, a nice big juicy target.

People are desperate to hand it over to Facebook..
Have facebook broken any electoral laws?
Does facebook have access to national aggregate data of every single internet connection?
Or is facebook reliant on individuals choosing to store data and interactions on their systems?

People don't care about handing data over to a faceless corporation.

The government need to be extremely careful at the moment. Pushing ahead with a hard rexir is only going to get them into more trouble.

I already said I was a net contributor - and I don't consider genuine need scrounging - it's just corbyns idea of genuine need is greed.

A no then?

People don't care about handing data over to a faceless corporation.

People voted for Erdogan that doesn't justify May's Authoritarian position either.
People choosing (or not) to allow corporations to store swaths of data is so irrelevant to this discussion I'm at a loss to describe how silly your position is starting to read!
