eXtreme Air Cooling - Build Log + Overclocking

Nope this is my first mod job.. although I did read a few guides on painting and that.. am not artistic by any strech of the imagination but i think anyone can follow a list of what to do :) everyone should try it is really satisfying

i like this

im not a massive fan [pun intended] of the case but you have improved it lots

i think you should have removed the thermaltake logos but its your case

other than that - it looks like it could be a great build - really looking forward to the final outcome

good luck

I have thought about removing the logos and may well do :) yeah the case is not my normal taste but goes well with the ethos of the build..

ok! here we go...

First a picture of one of the new 140mm Deltas next to one of the old 120mm these beasts are huge and weigh a lot!

DSCF4215.jpg

As I have mounted everything in the case had to rip the rig to bits and run the video's with the delta sitting on the top of the case... will need to sort some longer wiring at some point... also in my rush on the way home I forgot to pick up the tri-pod for the Digital Camcorder so I apologise now for the unsteady video's! had to use one hand as the other was controlling the PWM units

First video is one fan setup on one of the 24v PWM controllers... have the multi-meter in the for ground so you can see the voltage going through the fans, here

Second video I have two fans running off the same controller.. had to tape them down :) can be seen here

To give you some idea how much air they are pushing had a lighter on the desk about 5 foot away that promptly blew across it :)

well only downside at the moment is at low voltage I have a bit of a click on the fans which is annoying am going to have to figure with the frequency of the PWM wave and try and sort that out... but for now... I am to understate my mood WELL HAPPY

You could hear things other than the noise of the fan? Are you sure you're not just hearing the last vestiges of your hearing fading into oblivion, meekly mumbling for help as your auditory nerve shreds its final strands? ;)

They sounded like air raid sirens lol Great experimentation with much room for tweakage though; I like :D It'll be interesting to see how this affects temps! :D

indeed they dont start to get "loud" until about 9v so probably run them day to day at 6/7v where there is a distinct clicking you can hear it best at the start of the video where there are two of them..

anyways once I get some longer wires... then i'll wire all four up :)

Watched the vids, pretty mundane until >8V then sounded like F1 car doing the rounds! Awesome!

Get clocking and give us the temps! :D
