F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Not been part of the thread, i guess JRS is known to be a Ferrari fanboy??

So much of a fanboy that I stuck with them all through the truly lean patch in the early '90s.

philjohn has it about right. I'm fine with people disliking Ferrari. Everyone has a favourite team, and it doesn't have to be the same as mine. But to say that there's a pro-Ferrari bias at the FIA with pretty much bog-all evidence.....it just grates. I can well believe an anti-McLaren one, but not a pro-Ferrari one. It just so happens that most people see them as one and the same thing....

So whats a diffuser?

Something that diffuses.

;)

The diffuser alters the speed of air flowing from underneath the car to increase downforce. A few teams are sore at Williams, Toyota and Brawn because they appear to have found a way to increase the size of their diffusers without coming up against the brick wall of the regulations.

If you want more detail, you'll have to wait as I've got a man calling me back about an enormous concrete slab.

Indeed, it's just another in a long line of these...

  • Renault's original turbo engine
  • Brabham's variable ride height to get round the sliding skirts ban
  • All the Cossie team's water cooled brakes to get round the minimum weight rule
  • 96 Jordan's low cockpit head protection by measuring from the back of the roll hoop rather than the front

The scary thing is I'm struggling to think of anything more modern that's been designed by one team and then picked up by all the others rather than being banned - the wheel disk things I suppose could fall into this but they're not as radical or controversial as some of the above.

ferrari barge boards were coppied rather than banned. The manufacturing defect (which made bottom too small) in the ones at malaysia was fixed, so all teams copied from then on.

hmm what else.

Those Wheel hubs could be included, a few teams tried to get them banned before giving up and making it themselfs.

Yeah, those were the only thing that I thought of but I didin't think they were as much of a blatent exploitation of a badly written rule as some of the others.

I am sure I have probably missed it, but has anything been done to standardise the race stewards across all races, or are we still going to have different stewards at each race, and therefore different interpretations of rule infringements?

Not heard anything. Hopefully the BBC will go over things in more detail this weekend.

It's a device invented by Ferrari International Assistance designed to make McLaren less competitive.

Even if that was meant to be funny it made me facepalm

Oh well, I literally can't believe how much I'm looking forward to the end of this week, and how much I've missed the races!

And cheers whoever linked those diffuser drawings! I wasn't sure on exactly what the problem was but they made it abundantly clear :D

What an incredibly witty post! Have you ever considered a career in stand-up comedy?

I bet nothing has been done. After all, that would be a sensible move...and the FIA is only concerned with making bat-**** insane decisions like trying to force a ridiculous change to the points system through far too close to the start of the season....

I've never seen/heard from anyone who dislikes accusations made in the direction of the FIA showing bias towards Ferrari, as you JRS. You are very passionate about this topic and you must learn not to take it so personally.

This is merely a discussion board for people to vent their opinions - its not fact, just opinion.

I view this board as just a bit of fun; if it got to the point where I was getting angry/frustrated/emotional about something being written (in your case - the FIA), I wouldn't bother reading it.

Life's too short man.
