F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Bye bye Honda. I can't say that you'll be particularly missed by me.
Bye bye Button. You won't be missed by me.
Bye bye Barrichello. You will be missed.

Sod off Nick Fry and do not darken F1's doorstep again!

All we need now is one more team to go and they 3 car teams may well start appearing again.

This is the problem with the big manufacturers.

Bring back Lotus, Brabham, BRM, Tyrrell etc etc. And Cosworth and Ilmor for engines!

Sad news for the Brackley boys though :(

Lotus - Could come back, has been rumoured before. The Team Lotus name still exists and I believe is still registered by someone with an interest in racing.

Brabham - possibility.

BRM - I believe dead

Tyrrell - became B.A.R and then Honda.

I think I'd quite like to see 3+ car teams again.

Shame about Honda, I know they've not exactly been an exciting team to watch in the last couple of years but it'll be a shame to see a reduced grid, especially if any more teams follow...

Well this sucks. Honda have kinda quit in both seasons now. :(

I kinda agree with Housey though.

If it was all private/small car companys teams then they would want to keep the sport together, but all manufactures do is run away when the going gets tough.

Feel sorry for Button, kept on talking about 2009 they should have a jump start etc but we may only see one race if that of him

They kept on saying that about 2008 as well though. They abandoned the '07 car early on to develop the '08 - and look how that one turned out!

Even if they do find a buyer after after 3 months they are going without 3 months development from the sound of it. Meaning next year will be as bad as last year and this year :( This news is very late in the year and gives the drivers pretty much no chance of getting a seat elsewhere if the team is closed down.

More worrying is that I felt that Honda/Toyota were in F1 to be rivals and that without one the other may leave as well. Toyota have at least been a bit more competitive but no successful by any means!

The only possible good news is Honda having a bit of spare money to go touring car racing!

Sunday before Christmas I read somewhere. ITV1 about 11ish. Can't be any more exact I'm afraid.

Cheers, a quick search on the itv website reveals:

Anyone have any ideas of any potential buyers then?

Someone posted on my forum that he heard a rumour elsewhere that Jean & Nicholas Todt may be looking at buying Honda & that he could take the Ferrari engine deal that Force India recently dropped.

But it is just a rumour, and from somewhere else. So its probably nothing.

While it is disappointing for Honda to want to shelve it's F1 program I think it is noble of them to cut it and save all that money in these tougher times. They have to think more of their business and try to look after their workers who are having a big Christmas break this year.

The news about Audi not doing the LMS is more shocking as well, they are still developing the car and will be on the grid at Le Mans. OK so racing cost money but when you have a car and team for one race a year rather than taking part in the tour it seems a real waste!

Official Honda announcement at 9am tomorrow apparently - or 5am?

Although - FOTA have come forward with a few things....

Low cost engine in 2011 - 1.8 litre turbo unit with energy recovery systems and a 30% fuel saving on the current units. Please let it be a V6...

Testing to be halfed to 15'000km

The new qualifying system sounds crap - all the cars out on track at the same time with the slowest driver being knocked out on each lap. How many penalties for blocking are there going to be there? You get stuck behind a car on the wrong tyres and you're stuffed.
