F1 2009 Season discussion/development thread

Toyota/BMW/Ferrari all look quite closely matched at Bahrain too, seeing how early this all is. Dare I say we might have some close racing?

Name Team Laps Time Gap
Glock Toyota 82 1:33.501 129.479 mph
Massa Ferrari 98 1:33.615 0.114
Kubica BMW 95 1:33.702 0.201

I'm really looking forward to this season, first time in a long time. All teams have had to start from scratch more or less so the results at the beginning of the season should be quite varied.

In the end it was Vettel who outpaced the opposition, running comfortably in front of Williams and McLaren throughout a day marred by a midday rain shower, ...

Did Vettel outpace the rest of the field after the rain shower or in the dry?

I found this quote very interesting:

"BMW completed the first test of its F1.09 in Valencia today. The team has now completed a greater distance with its 2009 F1 car than any of its rivals have with theirs.

Heidfeld completed 91 laps, taking the total distance logged on the F1.09 up to 1,887km - more than Ferrari’s F60 (around 1,500km) and McLaren’s MP4-24 (690km, much of it in the wet)."

It would appear that BMW will have the most data to work on their car, based on the fact that they have done the most testing.

Given that testing is now being limited, these pre-season testing sessions hold enormous value, as getting ahead of the opposition now, will probably serve you well, right throughout the season.

I like the "around" that they've put next to the Ferrari figure. At a rough guess, "around" translates to "we actually aren't entirely certain just how many miles Ferrari have put on their car, but we kind of hope it's only 1500km" ;)

McLaren is still best looking imo, closely followed by the Redbull. The RB does look nicely tight packaged at the rear.

Indeed. Can't believe how thin/tapered it looks toward the back. First time I've seen those side shots comparing all the cars - very interesting to see how each team has interpreted the rule changes.

The depth of the rear wing end plates on the RB is staggering compared to some of the others. Hopefully a sign of Mr Newey returning to his good old winning days. Gonna be an interesting season!

Was more a look of shock on my face when i 1st got the drawing for the RWEP infront of me, i thought the DO had got the dimensions wrong!

Webbers back behind the wheel :D
