F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

Is winning GP2 litterally the worst thing an aspiring F1 driver can do now?

I don't think so, I'm not sure any of the recent champions have shown anything special whilst doing it.
In some ways it's good to see that the teams aren't just looking for the champion whether they seem like a talent or whether they have just spent £10 million racing GP2 for 4-5 seasons until they eventually win it... There's no denying though it's not doing what it's supposed to be there to do and the whole thing is badly broken.

Isnt that more to do with him being crap at quali.

The car finishes where it should, he just puts it lower on the grid than it should be.

He also said a few months ago that he sets the car up for the race whereas other drivers compromise between setting up for qually and the race, so that might explain why Button's race pace is never in doubt.

Didn't see Nasr going to Sauber but he looks like a promising driver so not totally surprised, with the sponsorship as well...

Yea, promising driver is one thing, promising driver with a big fat sponsorship is another!

Good move from Sauber, someone with money who can potentially go well in the car too.

I'd imagine it's 90% Banco.

Nasr's been very uninspiring in GP2 (it took him about 50 starts to win a race after all). I was wondering if his career had lost momentum, but it seems he's maintained enough backing to buy into F1 despite the bankruptcy of OGX.

22 cars on the entry list

Good news (depending on how you look at it) that, potentially, Caterham and Marussia may have been saved, still it's a long way before actually lining up on the grid first race next year.

It's gong to be CF1 on TV as I doubt they'll be able to make testing and get the first race in March.

Perhaps there ought to be some form of promotion where the GP2 champion gets a season in F1. This could be done by the powers that be offering a rather large incentive to the lower teams to take on the champion.

I'm not sure that's the answer, I think the past 3 GP2 champions not being in F1 is no great loss, which may seem harsh but I think there are better drivers who can't even get into GP2 for a 1 season due to lack of sponsorship/funding, let alone spend 4-5 years there until things fall into place enough so they can challenge for the title.
If the champion got an automatic place if anything it'd encourage more of the same, those with the money could jsut stay in GP2 until they won... They could even blow whatever money they were hoping to buy an F1 seat with.

It seems Sauber may have some issues Sutil in dispute with Sauber over 2015 contract

Adrian Sutil has made it clear that Sauber has not addressed the issue of his 2015 contract before announcing that Felipe Nasr will join Marcus Ericsson next year.

Meanwhile sources say that Giedo van der Garde also has a contract to race for Sauber in 2015 and the team could face two legal challenges….

Oh dear, oh dear...

I do feel slightly sorry for Adrian "Blinky To the Max" Sutil and Esteban "Kermit" Gutierrez, but not that sorry :p

Still a bit rough announcing Nasr then chucking Sutil into the Drivers Press Conference though.

And if we're doing silly season...

Alonso to become Ferrari Team Principal, get his mate Webber back from WEC and partner him and Vettel together for the lolz, ensuring Sebby gets the spare parts this time round.

This would be fine if nobody else from GP2 moved up either. But at the moment we are getting mediocre champions who leave and vanish, while a random selection of even more mediocre drivers who couldn't beat the mediocre champion are hoovered up by the F1 teams due to their funding.

There's a very real argument for getting into GP2 and then not bothering to try and be fast, and instead just focus on gaining sponsors.

The rule about champions leaving made sense when the champion was almost guaranteed an F1 contract (Hamilton, Glock, Rosberg, etc), but now it just makes GP2 a complete dead end.
