F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

Does anyone else get the feeling that Honda want Button and McLaren want Kmag and that's why the whole thing is dragging on and on?

Its clearly not an easy decision or it would have been made. They still haven't announced Alonso so I assume he's still negotiating too.

Someone said on Pistonheads that it'll be Alonso and Magnussen. Button apparently offered Porsche WEC drive earlier this year but turned it down. Of course no confirmation or source!

Its late enough now that it is confirmed whoever doesn't get the McLaren seat won't get a seat elsewhere in F1. McLarens decision will end a drivers (current) F1 career.

At what point does the 3 car teams have to be announced if its a go ahead for 2015?

(Not suggesting JB would get 3rd car, more out of interest)

Sometime towards the end of 2013 :)

There is no way in hell that is happening next year, and hopefully, ever.

Ok, now how about a real answer ( as a few teams have already agreed to do this for '15 if asked)

It would be fantastic to have ten+ teams with approx the same pace on the grid, but I just cant see Manor/ Marrussia/ Catterham adding anything ( apart from mobile road blocks) to the situation

All teams test with only one car available, at least until Feb so actual production doesnt need to ramp up until well into the new year ( excluding engines potentially). Additional staff have to be hired for race weekends ( although where they would fit 3rd cars and staff without knocking down walls and rebuilding others along every pit lane to make triple width garages would be interesting)

Obiousely the sporting rules come before anything practical, and without those changing its irrelevant

Three-car teams become mandatory if only eight teams enter the WCC. This is why Bernie has been trying to pressure one of Sauber, Force India and Lotus to drop out and why when that didn't work, he's relaxed the regulations to try and keep Caterham in. If neither of those things happen, he loses his F1 contract.

Not quite.

The contracts between FOM and race promoters state that F1 will use it's best endeavours to field at least 16 cars. In order to have a buffer the contracts between FOM and the teams state that should the field fall below 20 teams can be asked to field 3rd cars. Ferrari and RBR have stated that if they were asked they could do this.

Neither of these are FIA regulations or contracts. There is nothing in the sporting or technical regulations about 3rd cars. F1 can still happen regardless of how many cars race, it's the FOM promotion side that's affected.

It's not just the engine though, is it? It's all the rest of the ERs and so on.

$20m includes the whole PU. A years supply of 2015 power units to a customer team costs between $15m and $25m depending on who you are and which engine. For the McLaren deal to be worth $100m its probably a 5 year deal or something.

Who'd have to agree for there to be three car teams? Eg. if Bernie/FOM said it needs to happen and gave it the green light (:o), could Ferrari and Red Bull agree and do it even if the other teams were against it?

Its in the agreements between the individual teams and FOM, so its not something that can be 'blocked' by other teams.

However, it looks like it actually means a team giving another team a car, rather than teams running 3 cars themselves. So it wouldn't be Ferrari and RBR running a 3rd car to improve their chances, it would be them 'gifting' one to a struggling team so they run it as theirs.

"Danish toy giant Lego has turned down an offer to become one of the sponsors of Kevin Magnussen in his attempt to retain his place in the Formula 1 team McLaren for next season.

Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, the CEO of the Lego Group, told DR News that "the sponsorship did not fit Lego's brand".

Lego's rejection follows claims on the blog of British F1 expert Joe Saward that McLaren manager Ron Dennis was in Denmark last week in sponsorship talks with several Danish companies.

At the end of this year's F1 season, Dennis announced he would like Denmark to support Kevin Magnussen more.

"I wish Denmark woke up and realised what a unique opportunity they have to endorse someone who could easily become a sporting legend in this country," he told media.

As things stand, Saxo Bank is the only Danish company that sponsors F1 – through a deal with Lotus – and last month they agreed with Dennis and sang the praises of sponsoring sport.

It is still unclear whether Magnussen will retain his place next year, but an announcement is expected later today."

Roughly translated to please give me money for my team and I will have a Dane in one of my cars. Jenson Button has demolished him this season so I can hardly see how the hell he has the makeup of a sporting legend! Magnussen senior was average and so is Kevin. I really thought McLaren were a big enough team that they didn't need pay drivers!

Button is a fantastic driver. Okay his qualifying work has never been the best but he has proved he has what it takes. People seem to forget that he equaled Hamilton for two seasons and beat him by a fair margin in 2011.

You say that Button demolished Magnussen and go on to say what a fantastic driver Button is...

I'm not arguing these points but Magnussen is in his first year in F1 straight from FR 3.5 and Button is a 15 year veteran and a WDC I think you are perhaps being a little unfair.
