F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

They were already there!

I think the point is that they would have been better off not bringing the hybrid and instead using a 2014 car with a Mercedes engine to instead do what every other team did and run aero development and test tyres.

However, this point only works with the benifit of hindsight. If they had turned up and run 100 laps with the Honda they would have gone home with a truck load of data worth its weight in gold.

All in all it was probably worth the risk as they will (hopefully) not lose a chunk of time with issues at the Pre Season tests. But when looked at on its own, I don't think anyone can say it wasn't a pretty disastrous test, and had a massive opportunity cost.

The Mercedes engine contract may well have ended by that point. It was testing, not practise or qualifying. The entire point of testing is to learn from it and that they most definitely did. You don't only test when you know it works!

They got a "free" engine test , which didn't work out.

Nothing more, nothing less. No real opportunity lost either, as mentioned previously look how terrible the Renault engine was doing two or three months further down the line in comparison

Not sure what aero any team could really use this far in advance without it being copied if any good before the season starts. That's why so many teams don't use their actual cars in Jan/Feb tests

Seems like the long wait for a McLaren driver announcement may be about to end. Invite to a media event at the factory on Thursday

Could it be tomorrow? Finally....?

McLaren appear poised to finally confirm their 2015 driver line-up on Thursday after scheduling a media event at their Woking HQ.

The already delayed wait to learn who will partner Fernando Alonso in the Spaniard’s expected return to the team next season was pushed back further last week when a McLaren board meeting broke up without a resolution on their line-up.

With Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen currently waiting on news whether they will be retained for 2015, McLaren subsequently said that a decison would be made until this week at the earliest and that waiting game could end on Thursday morning with the team having invited media representatives to their Woking base for 10am.

While simply billed on the media invite as an "important and exclusive media event at the McLaren Technology Centre", the inevitable immediate media reaction was that it would feature the unveiling of their 2015 line-up for their first year back with Honda.

I so think they're going to announce something else. Troll ol lol a lol

I can't see it happening like that, which is partly why they've probably taken so long to announce anything as I believe they want to announce everything together - drivers & sponsors, besides will they really want to antagonise the media/fans anymore than they already have!? :)

If they did that, would they unveil their livery for next year a the same time for the announcement? Oooooowwwww, interesting.

Have they really invited both "current" drivers to the announcement tomorrow - or is there a chance of it leaking over night?

Would be even worse if they (in their "wisdom") invited both drivers tomorrow just so the above doesn't happen, but imagine the backlash which ever way it turns out
