F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

I think it is the wrong choice to be honest.

Yes, Button is the better driver at the moment, but with only a couple of years left he won't provide another title, Alonso may only have a couple of years left, I think he does have a chance at least of being able to give a title to McLaren if they give the car.

Magnussen while slower, I'd have thought would have been a better long term option for them to develop the driver.

In that case they need another Hamilton. I don't think Magnussen is another Hamilton.

Yesssssssssssssssss!

Glad they signed JB. So come on now JB, pull your socks up and get your quali and car set up sorted and make the most of the extra year you've got.

Glad they resigned Mag as test and reserve driver. I hope Mclaren give him a lot of FP1 sessions - he deserves that much at least.

Not particularly, he can become a good, strong 2nd driver like Button has become. If Alonso gets them a title, they shouldn't have many issues attracting other big drivers to the number 1 when Alonso leaves.

Remember, the drivers championship is only for the benefit of the fans, there's no incentive for the teams to win a drivers championship, while winning it is obviously nice, they don't need another hamilton to take a constructors title later on. Just 2, regular podium finishers.

The move does suggest that they think they have a chance of competing within the next year or so, otherwise there's no benefit of Button racing and Magnussen test driving, if their primary concern was development, I'd expect it the other way, with Magnussen getting more race experience, while allowing Button to test and help develop

Happy for JB. I know someone had to be ditched but I still feel a little bad for Kevin.

McLaren appear to be run by an unforgiving bunch. This is the second time they've simply ditch someone after one year.

How do we know that JB or KM didn't know what was going on for weeks. Just because the team hadn't announced it doesn't mean it wasn't known.

They could have been using it to get more from honda or a sponsor etc etc

He's still there unlike Perez though, even if it's in an essentially redundant role.

If his management have any clout they will have written in to his contract he has first option on a drive if either Button or Alonso go, which is entirely possible after 2015 (Button retiring, Alonso going to Merc. if a place comes up).

It would be funny if JB turned round and told them to stick it, but if he is happy to stay in F1 with McLaren (did he already have a contract with McL going into 2105?), maybe he has a shot at another WDC if the Honda engine delivers... In another "bolt out of the blue" car just like the 2009 Brawn!

Ron Dennis targetting "domination" in future. @alo_oficial signed "many weeks ago" @JensonButton signed last night #f1 #McLaren

Dennis says that part of the delay in signing @JensonButton was the possibility of needing to supply a 3rd car with financial issues in #F1

I think they've made a terrible mistake. They've signed a driver who is past his best IMO, and doesn't really have the passion for the sport any more. He won't be able to reproduce his best years.

Sure he gets a lot of points but he doesn't really have that fire in him any more. I guess it will be interesting to find out what he can do, but I really don't think it's the right decision.

He's also got to race alongside Button..

This is a complete fallacy spread by teams/fans who don't win the WDC. Sponsors care about the WDC far more than the WCC. It's much more than 'nice' for the team.

Finally, good news for Jenson. Don't buy into what Ron is saying, I had hoped him returning to McLaren would be a good thing but so far it seems not. Time will tell.

There is no prize money at all for WDC, while sponsors may pay more for it, guaranteed funds comes from the WCC, please provide evidence that proves otherwise.
