F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

I wonder if there are any more crazy Button fans about like smr? Then I wonder what Button would actually think of some one like smr if he saw the things he says? Intresting.

Good on Button though. They have made the correct choice here imo, they are going to need two very experienced drivers if they want that Honda unit to perform in 2016.

I'd rather call it being purposefully over excited and enthusiastic at times :) There aren't seemingly many Jenson fans here, or at least many vocal ones but it's a very different story on the other forums I'm a member of.

Wonder what the livery is going to be like - Button was wearing a white Honda shirt with black sleeves, do hope it's not just a white and black car :p

Yes - now the drivers are sorted out can we please have a new livery? This 'Mercedes wannabe' look has gotten old. Would love to have the orange back but I doubt it will happen. Maybe Honda Championship White with a red Hinomaru like Honda back in the sixties?

What makes me laugh is the 'armchair experts' in here stating he would be dropped, what did they know LOL. As I stated before, he probably knew more than he was able to let on and, from the sound of it, it was his management team that were negotiating the terms of his contract in regards to his pay. Quote Ron Dennis:

"We signed Fernando a little while ago, but we decided not to announce the fact until we had also re-signed Jenson as his team mate."

BBC reported 1 year with an option on 2nd year - I'd assume that doesn't guarantee him a 2nd year.

McLaren chairman Ron Dennis said that he had taken his time over deciding between Button and 2014 team-mate Kevin Magnussen because he had initially had some "causes of concern" about Button.

"I gave Jenson some ideas on solutions," said Dennis, without going into detail," and he said: 'No problem.' Then it was very easy.

Cause of concern - costs too much; solution - pay him less; jenson said yes; then it was very easy :D

If Mclaren can give Alonso a competitive car it will be a really good year for F1 if he is able to challenge the Mercedes.

Will be interesting to see how Button fairs up to Alonso now, hopefully should be good battles.

I'm happy for Button to get the seat, he is a class act and F1 would have missed him had he left.

The right choice wasn't that impressed with KM, if mclaren think he's good, they should buy him a seat in the midfield to develop.
New car, new engine. You need two experienced people to help develop.

Ron looks like he's blaming Hamilton for the 2007 debacle...

Dennis added that he believes Hamilton was a key player in the problems at McLaren escalating in 2007, rather than Alonso being solely to blame.

"To go back to that period, you look at this young guy, understandably perceived by many people as the chosen one," he said.

"But [he was] also someone who had immaturity, and really, who struck the first blow?

"I would say Lewis had his role to play in starting this process which escalated."

Just because we don't name our kids after him and post constantly about how he's the best driver in the world doesn't mean we aren't fans.

I expect most just shy away from admitting it for fear of being associated with you :p

In those explosive events of 2007 @ Hungary.
Ron Dennis, Hamilton and Alonso all played their part.
Ron Dennis is older and should've handled the situation better.
In any case, Honda demanded Alonso be brought in and McLaren duly obliged.
Now lets see how quickly Honda can get on the pace.
I still say that McLaren should've stuck with Merc engine. With Alonso, they'd stand a good chance of winning in their first year.

And why did McLaren not switch to Honda engines in the middle of 2014, to speed up development? Does anybody know?

Effectively McLaren wasted 2014 and have also wasted 2015.

They have the strongest driver pairing in 2015, but if their car is likely to be 1-2s/lap of the pace, their drivers will struggle to make any impact. We will however get to enjoy an inter-team battle. Lets see how Button handles Alonso. Both drivers spanked their respective team-mates in 2014, so 2015 should be a ding-dong battle.

The right decision to retain Jenson, and few teams could ignore the availability of Alonso if they also had the means to afford him. What McLaren will need to do early in 2015 is genuinely demonstrate that they are thinking longer term on their journey to reclaim the constructor’s championship, as a repeat of the end of this season would be a failure to do so. Therefore if they do want to introduce another young talent that they believe in, have a proper succession plan in place with both current drivers and ensure that everyone knows were they are.

A mischievous part of me would like to see Jenson trounce Fernando next year and see where that leaves them! But anyway, for now things are set for 2015 and, given by all the changes and speculation from 2014, McLaren could quite conceivably have two completely different drivers in place for 2016. Let’s look forward to a thrilling contest between two F1’s elder statesmen – an opportunity for Jenson to prove a few doubters wrong and the same opportunity for Alonso to cement a view that he’s right up there with the best. Let’s just hope that the duelling takes place near or at the front of the pack and not in the midfield.
