F1 2015 - Teams and Drivers - Who goes where?!

Isn't Carlos Sainz Jr taking the seat from JEV at STR? I think the contract has already been signed.

As for Button, he said that he's won't be fussed if he's not in F1 next year, if that happens then he will most likely go to some sort of sports cars. Would be a shame to see JB leave F1 though - he's still one of my favourite drivers.

Except he's often said he has no interest in driving in other types of motorsport.

Frankly I hope he stays away from endurance racing as I'm sick of ex-F1 drivers seemingly thinking it's something they can just "try their hand at" and that it's less demanding. Personally I think endurance racing is far more demanding a discipline than F1 will ever be and have the utmost respect for the top guys in the sport, those who've dedicated the best years of their racing careers to it rather than treating it as something to do "after F1".

A rather uncalled for elitist attitude you have there? Sure plenty of F1 drivers have gone to endurance racing, but that's because an F1 driver is considered old at 30. Endurance racing has a much wider age range. Plus, drivers tend to get into F1 because there pretty good, so why wouldn't they be able to transfer those skills to endurance racing? I can't think of any F1 drivers that have moved to endurance racing and somehow embarrassed the sport by thinking they can "have a go". There's also a large proportion of the top teams drivers who are racking up a lot of success which are ex F1. Just look at the names in this list!

I think your having a bit of an unfair rant tbh.

JB to replace Massa at Williams? Heck, maybe even Alonso to Williams instead? The Williams car is competing well behind the Mercedes, a better driver could maybe be pushing things even closer to the Mercs.

Historically Williams have always put their resources into the car rather than paying large salaries to drivers. The only way Alonso would end up there is if he was doing it purely for the chance to be competitive and was taking a massive pay cut

All his stuff is great and well informed.

He does several chats a week usually. From tech updates with scares to stuff like this.
Anyone who keeps upto date with f1 should subscribe to his channel?

Guys, honestly can we please stop debating where alonso is going? He has signed for Mclaren. Its done. Even Nico Hulkenberg has said this today. The ink has been put to paper. I really cant understand why ron dennis is dismissing it other than the fact that he legally cannot announce it until its official, not an answer to the media.

Just remains to be seen who mclaren will keep.... i have a bad feeling it will be magnusson however wrong that decision would be.

So your confirmed source is...?

The fact ink on paper makes it official kinda blows your "Ron can't say anything unless it's official, even if its signed" statement apart.

Your probably right, but strolling around here like your some secret F1 mole with access to all the confidential information, and trying to tell us off for discussing anything else is making you look like a bit of a twit.

LOL maybe I was. It just winds me up when any form of motorsport other than F1 is perceived as somehow inferior and "what F1 drivers do when their F1 career is over".

Endurance racing is by no means easy. It does however have different challenges to F1. The physical strength needed to compete in F1 and take the G forces is very different to the physical and mental endurance needed for endurance racing. If you asked an F1 driver to drive for 3 hours straight they would tell you to bugger off. If you then told them to get a couple of hours sleep and then do it again... and then again... and then again... they would faint. Lol.

The thing is the skills for F1 are better suited to younger drivers, while mental strategy and endurance is a skill older people have. So the simple fact is endurance racing is what people do after F1, but not because its easy, but rather because its where their skills can be best applied.

Im not telling anyone off for not believing alonso is heading back to mclaren i just dont want anyone wasting time or discussions based on theories that he isnt going there... he is going to mclaren so itd be more interesting to discuss driver movements on this basis. But anyway. @Pitlanetalk...make your own mind up.

And it sounds like this will be the last ever japanese f1 race for jenson button. Truly gutted, more of a rumour but i think they may be right. :(

Sad days for JB. Has he got it for a top team? IMO No.

Is he a class driver who is super smooth yep, read conditions very well, mostly.

He deserves to be in F1 More than Massa I suppose, I do like Massa. However if he is not willing to take a back seat drive then bye bye Jenson.

His points say otherwise, he is easily good enough for a top team, albeit as a number two. Just no seats left, as they would rather train up a young person, as Alonso/kimi haven't got long left (so that's 2 out of 8 top seats that will need to be replaced in a few years and a further two seats unproved KM and kyvat). So they do need to bring in youngsters. Not sure KM is the driver they need, he hasn't shone this year. Not bad either, just average.

He could easily move to a midfield team, but he's allready said he doesn't want to, where Massa seemed happy to do that.

I know its much more likely that Alonso is going to McLaren, but if Alonso did go to Williams could you imagine the reaction from Massa, who would be the most likely person to be replaced since Frank Williams thinks so highly of Bottas. "Massa, Alonso is faster than you" :p

All I can say is, whilst there doesn't seem to be massive support for Jenson on here, or if there are you're probably in hiding, the Mclaren page on Facebook is taking a staggering amount of **** from Jenson Button fans who seem to think that Jenson is on his way out.

They are going to be upsetting an overwhelming number of people if this transpires to to be the case.....................

Ex f1 champ Alan Jones is saying Alonso has signed directly with Honda and will be at McLaren as a result.

Which is funny because I was just asking the missus what Alonso's "Plan" could be that he's been on about....

Makes total sense, sign for Honda and then decide where to go after if Honda supply an engine to a team with a better chassis after 2015.... or maybe it doesn't make sense!

:o
