Teams with the pull-rod front suspension seem strong.

Isn't only McLaren and Red Bull with pull-rod? McLaren are looking good, both from on-track reports of the way they handle, and the timing sheets. I haven't seen anything about Red Bull standing out though? (Not that they're doing badly, and they've racked up the laps which is more important than glory in the timing sheets at this point).

The sheer volume of laps is what worries me. They're showing impressive consistency and reliability (save for Perez' gearbox issue).

16. Hamilton (Mercedes) 1m22.562s, C2, 40 laps

That's it Hamilton going to come last this season! You heard it here first ;)

Good to see Zhou running at a decent pace, perhaps he won't be the potato people seem to be assuming.

Porpoising seems to be an issue for several teams' cars this year - Mercedes included.

Just a few mm difference in height from the ground to the bottom of the floor can make a massive difference in the amount of downforce generated, and also where it's centre of pressure is.

Closer to the ground = higher venturi = more downforce.

Once the airflow detaches you lose that downforce = lower Venturi = higher ground clearance.

Going to be a challenge to keep a stable level when you consider the cars already run crazy stiff setups.

Hass will run from tomorrow in plain white livery. Removing the Uralkali branding.

So much for the : "No, of course it's not the Russian flag? We're not allowed to display the Russian flag due to the Russian doping penalties. How can you say that? It's the colours of the American flag! Purely coincidence that it's the same colours in the same order as the Russian one" defence that was put up last year. :D ;)

Also, how long before Mazepin is shown the door? Without the Russian money, no seat...

[edit]

Already being removed from the trucks (shame about the jackets through).

Apparently Pietro Fittipaldi has been in the pitlane having a photoshoot with his race suit and helmet. Could Haas lose a sponsor and driver before the season has even begun?

"The key is whether the Russian grand prix in September will go ahead"

Hahahahahaha....hahahahahah, good one, I can answer that: Nnnnooooooo

Surely not unusual to have the test driver there at a test session, and if he's there surely not unusual to have a photoshoot. I wouldn't read too much into this.

Could Haas lose a sponsor and driver before the season has even begun?

We can only hope. That said, I'd be surprised if Fittipaldi gets the seat.

I'm idly wondering if Mazepin (who is still in the Uralkali-less car this morning) is forced to leave whether Haas could get Piastri in. I'm sure they'd prefer someone more experienced, but Alpine will want Piastri to get some experience (like Alonso did at Minardi in 2001) before he inevitably ends up in their own car.

If Andretti - already linked to Alpine for PU supply - does see this as a quick way into F1 and Gene Haas doesn't want to front the cost himself, then they might agree to taking on Piastri with a view to a future PU supply.
