F1 Testing 2014: Week 1 Jerez

I thought exactly this whilst watching tonight. I feel sorry for the fans and Ted. You can tell that he wants to carry on talking and we all want to keep listening. I don't understand why he doesn't get half an hour instead of just 15 minutes. World's biggest broadcasting company n all?

I could understand if it was such a short broadcast just due to a day of testing with less than 100 laps total, but 6 (relatively) unseen cars were launched today.

There's barely any point in him being there at this rate.

Having heard the sound I am going to miss the screaming whine of the V8s tbh, these engines and the energy recovery systems have a lower and more raspy sound but I do really like the new sound in it's own way, there's quite a few new textures and whirly/ whiney sounds coming through with the turbo and recovery systems which sound cool

I'm not going to miss the V8s at all. I thought they were relatively flat, didn't really scream or shout. It was just a noise. I did grow up among V12s and V10s though.

Much prefer the turbos. They might not be quite as loud, but there's an awful lot of odd whining, whirring and grunting going on. Much tastier for me. I'm surprised how much they sound like the 80s cars to be honest, I thought they'd be far more neutered.

You can see the thinking behind the Caterham. Maximum air fed towards the floor. But the fact nobody else has done similar does make you wonder if they have messed up.

Pirelli have decided to make today the mandatory wet day of running and are sprinkling the track.
Was going to be Friday but as there's rain due today they've switched it.

Talking of backs of cars, has anyone seen the back of the Mercedes. No clear openings for heat, also coupled with relatively small side pod entries, i am wondering if the cooling concerns are as dire as everyone has made out. Looking at all the non manufactor teams (inc redbull for this case), the rears of the cars have huge openings and the side pods entries are visably larger, have the engine manufactors been leading peolpe on a wild goose chase here.

I thought the messy Mercedes structure contributed to Ross leaving. I'm not sure he'd want to get back in that again.

But he is he is to become the new 'CEO of McLaren Racing' he will only report to Ron so perhaps he will like that as he will be pretty much in charge of the racing side of things... At least that's how it reads.
